Dear Laity View Families,
On Friday, schools are participating in Orange Shirt Day to honour the children who never returned home and the survivors of the residential school system in Canada. Therefore, we encourage all students and staff to wear orange on Friday. A reminder that next Monday is a statutory holiday and next Tuesday is a non-instructional day, so there is no school for students. Mon., Sept. 30: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – NO SCHOOL
Tues., Oct. 1: District School Growth Planning Day – NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS
Bicycles and Scooters: Students must lock up their bicycles and scooters in the bicycle racks along the west side of the school. The twisty locks work well for scooters. Unfortunately, students cannot store bicycles/scooters inside the school/classrooms because this creates a safety hazard for all staff and students. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Personal Digital Devices: At Laity View Elementary, students are discouraged from bringing personal digital devices to school. This is because when students need to use technology as part of their learning, they will usually use the devices provided by the school. Our expectation is that cell phones are not used or turned on during the school day from 8:30 am to 2:20 pm. After school students should use their cell phones outside of the building. However, a staff member may grant a student permission to use a cell phone or other personal digital device for educational purposes during class time for purposes of inclusion and accessibility (e.g., digital literacy, communication, medical and health needs, and as defined within an individual education plan). Students who bring devices to school do so at their own risk. Parents wishing to contact their children during the school day can do so by calling our school phone at (604) 463-7108.
Accidental Injury to Student: The School District does not pay medical/dental costs arising from injury sustained by a student while on school grounds or while participating in school activities. Such costs are the responsibility of the parent or guardian. If needed, parents or guardians may purchase coverage from organizations that offer student accident programs. Examples of such vendors include Insure My Kids or Study Insured Student Accident.
Student Verification Forms: Please check, sign, and date these important forms and have your childreturn the form to their teacher. It is imperative the school receives this form back for every student assoon as possible.
Drop Off/Pick Up Reminders: When in the drop off/pick up lane, please remember to pull close to the yellow curb, stay in your vehicle, and keep driving your vehicle forward after the cars in front of you pull out to leave. In addition, the BUS LANE on the south side of the island is for buses only and is not a drop off/pick up area.
Parent Portal Consent Forms – Please ensure that you complete the 2024/2025 SD42 Consent Forms on the portal. Please read through each form in order to give permission or not provide permission for each child in your family at Laity View Elementary.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lawrance
