October 2nd Update to Families

Dear Laity View Families,

A reminder that schools are closed on Monday for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to honour the children who never returned home and the survivors of the residential school system in Canada.  Last week, our staff facilitated age-appropriate conversations about this day and participated in some school-wide activities, such as our assembly last Friday.  Please review the information below for some details about the upcoming week.

Mon., Oct. 2:  National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – Schools are closed on Monday.  The Government of Canada designated September 30^th a statutory holiday named National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in recognition of the lasting harm residential schools have had on Indigenous communities. We ask students, staff, and families to use this opportunity to reflect on the profound injustice of residential schools and ensure that the intergenerational trauma suffered by First Nations, Métis, and Inuit families is not forgotten.

Tues., Oct. 3:  District School Growth Planning Day – There is no school for students on Tuesday due to a non-instructional day.

Oct. 4 – 6:  Toonies for Terry – please bring in a toonie for the Terry Fox Foundation as a donation towards cancer research.

Wed., Oct. 4:  11:00 am Terry Fox Assembly

            11:30 am Kindergarten/Grade 1 Terry Fox Run

            1:30 pm Grades 1 – 7 Terry Fox Run

Thurs., Oct. 5:  World Teachers’ Day – On World Teachers’ Day, we celebrate the critical role of teachers and paraprofessionals in transforming learners’ potential by ensuring they have the tools they need to take responsibility for themselves, for others, and for the planet.  The world recognizes teachers as knowledge producers and reflective practitioners.  A huge thank you to our amazing Laity View staff!

Fri., Oct. 6:  PAC Treat Day – TCBY (frozen yogurt)

2:00 – 3:00 pm PAC Coffee Fundraiser Pick Up

Mon., Oct. 9:  Thanksgiving Day – A reminder there is no school on Monday due to Thanksgiving national holiday.

Photo Expression Orders:  Photo orders placed by October 11^th will be delivered to the school with no shipping charge.  Orders placed after October 11^th will be delivered with the retake photo orders, also with no shipping charge.  Photo retakes are scheduled for October 16^th.  After the last orders are delivered to our school, then any further photo orders are subject to shipping charges and are delivered to parents’ homes.

Drop Off/Pick Up Reminders:  When in the drop off/pick up lane, please remember to pull close to the yellow curb, remain in your vehicle, and keep moving your vehicle forward as the cars in front of you pull out to leave.
