May 12th Update to Families

Dear Laity View Families,

Every mother is amazing!  Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms everywhere!  A huge thank you to the PAC for the breakfast buffet to celebrate Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week last week.  A reminder there is no school for students on Wednesday due to a district non-instructional day and Monday, May 19^th due to Victoria Day statutory holiday.  Please review the information below for some details about the upcoming week.   ​

     Yearbook Orders DUE

Mon., May 19:  Victoria Day Holiday – No School

2024/25 Yearbook Orders – 2024/25 Laity View Yearbooks are on sale for one more week until 16^th.  Orders are placed with Photo Expressions and paid online at https://plicbooks.ca/go/5XCWPG and cost $23 each.  Congratulations to our yearbook cover contest winners: Deirdre B for the front cover and Zaiden L for the back cover.

Lost and Found – Our Lost and Found is overflowing again.  Please come into the school and take a look for items that may belong to your children.  We plan to pack everything up on Friday to donate to charity.

Early Dismissal Requests – We understand that sometimes parents need to pick up their children early from school.  In order to facilitate this request, please notify the school via the parent portal/email of any early dismissals, not just by emailing your child’s teacher.  Our office reception email is checked all day long and is the best way to communicate such information since classroom teachers are not easily able to check their email throughout the school day.  Your assistance is greatly appreciated and will benefit everyone.

Spring Cross Country Training – PRIMARY Cross Country practices are Tuesday and Thursday at recess at Volker Park.  Students meet at Ms. Carissa’s room and walk over together.  Primary race day is May 21^st at Albion Sports Complex Field for students in Kindergarten – Grade. 3.  Students get a permission form by attending practice and need a form to compete on race day.  Any questions, please email Carissa_Keenan@sd42.ca.  INTERMEDIATE Cross Country practices are Monday and Wednesday at recess at Volker Park.  Intermediate race day is May 15^th at Albion Sports Complex Field for students in Grades 4 – 7.  Students can pick up a permission form from M. Tremblay.  Any questions, please email Joanna_Edwards@sd42.ca.  Parents are responsible for getting their child(ren) to and from the district races.

Parent Input Regarding Student Placement for 2025-2026 – We are beginning to create our classes for next year.  Please be assured that staff devote considerable time, care and attention to this process.  This very complex and lengthy responsibility occurs over several weeks and continues into September when class placements are finalized.

Throughout the year, there have been many opportunities for parents and teachers to discuss each child.  Staff work together to consider the following criteria very carefully: social emotional skills and relationships, as well as learning styles, strengths, and needs.  Our goal is to create safe and engaging inclusive classrooms that balance these factors, as equitably as possible. 

If you feel there is further information to consider about your child, you may submit input to the principal or vice-principal (and/or your child’s classroom teacher) in writing using this FORM or by sending an email to lisa_lawrance@sd42.ca or katherine_ross@sd42.ca by May 30^th. Please refrain from requesting specific teachers or peers by name.  As class placement at Laity View is a collaborative process, parent input forms are shared with all teachers for discussion.
