March 3rd Update to Families

March 2, 2025 By Lisa Lawrance

Dear Laity View Families,

We are coming to the end of our second term and time is going too quickly.  Even though there are still two weeks left until spring break, the time will fly past.  Be sure to schedule your term 2 reporting conference with your child’s teacher.  Please review the information below for some details about the upcoming week.

Jan. 14 – Mar. 14:  Grade 5 Middle Years Development Instrument Timeframe

March 1 – May 2:  Student Learning Surveys Timeframe

Mar. 3 – 7:  Book Swap Collection – students bring in gently used books to donate (see criteria below)

Tues., Mar. 4:  Ski and Snowboard field trip – all day (for those students registered)

Wed., Mar. 5:  10:35 am Laity View Grade 4 & 5 Reading Link Challenge (Library)

Fri., Mar. 7:  12:25 pm PAC Hot Lunch – Subway (pre-order required)

Lost & Found DONATED to charity

Sat., Mar. 8:  11:30 am PAC Neufeld Farms Fundraiser PICK UP (front parking lot)

Sun., Mar. 9:  Daylight Savings Time (clocks spring ahead one hour)

Laity View Book Swap – We are so excited to announce our first ever Book Swap!  This event will be a great way to get some exciting new books into students’ hands.  For this event to be a success we will need lots of book donations from our families.  Get a jump start on your spring cleaning and send in all the books that your children have already read so they can swap them out for some new and exciting reads!

Please only send books that are in GOOD used condition.

     – age appropriate for K-7 (we will have a separate swap for primary and intermediate)

     – no board books

     – no ripped covers or pages

     – no writing/stains in books

     – no colouring or activity books

Teachers will be collecting books this week from March 3rd – 7th.

Don’t hesitate to reach out to Mme Clark (natalie_clark@sd42.ca) if you have any further questions about this exciting event.

Lost and Found – Our Lost and Found is overflowing again.  The items will be on display in the front entrance until Friday this week.  Please encourage your children to take a look for items that may belong to them.  We plan to pack up everything on Friday to donate to charity.

Three Way Reporting Conferences, Mar. 13 (early dismissal at 11:30am) and Mar. 14 – Our teachers have put out a sign up for term 2 conferences on the parent portal.  Please be sure to sign up for your desired allotted time of either online or in person conferences.  This is an important time where your child will be showing their learning for the term and setting goals for term 3.  As such, please try to find alternate arrangements for your other children.

Student Learning Surveys – If you have a student in Grade 4 or 7, parents are invited to complete a Student Learning Survey.  This year, parents do not need a logon code to access the online Student Learning Survey.  Electronic surveying is available until May 2nd.  The website to access the electronic survey is: www.bced.gov.bc.ca/sat_survey/access.htm.  Please do not use Safari as there is currently a glitch with this browser.  We invite you to take 15 minutes of your time to fill this out.  The more parents who complete these surveys, the higher quality of feedback we will receive.  Your input is appreciated.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lawrance
