Dear Laity View Families,
Wow! Last week was a very full and exciting first week back. Our teachers are busy planning upcoming field trips and presenters. Be sure to check your emails regularly if you can help volunteering in any capacity. Please review the information below for some details about the upcoming week.

Black Excellence Day – Mon., Jan. 15 – As a lead up to Black History Month, Black Excellence Day is a day to rejoice black history and learn about black stories, black art and black people, and a day to stand in unity by wearing black. This Monday is Black Excellence Day, and we invite you and our students to participate by wearing black on that day.
Wheelhouse Program Online Information Night, Jan. 25 and 29 at 7:00 pm – This program of choice located at Alouette Elementary is a classroom where Grade 6 and 7 students are both challenged and supported in becoming life-long learners and responsible citizens. Students who are currently in Grade 5 are eligible for Sept. 2024. Preregistration is required for the virtual information sessions.
Inclement Weather Procedures – The decision to close schools due to weather conditions is ultimately the responsibility of the Superintendent, who must balance the safety of students, staff, and parents with the need to provide learning. The decision is not taken lightly and is the result of a carefully thought-out process that is reviewed after each experience and refined if necessary. The decision to close schools is made by approximately 6:30 a.m. Details are:
- posted on the SD42 Twitter feed (@sd42news);
- posted on the SD42 Facebook feed (SD42Facebook);
- shared with News 1130, CKNW, and CBC 690 radio stations;
- posted on the SD42 Website (sd42.ca).
Next week’s forecast shows the possibility of continued cold weather. Please be sure that your children come to school dressed appropriately to go outside. At recess and lunch, we always go outside unless advised otherwise by the district.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lawrance
