Congratulations to our students and staff for the excellent job practicing our lockdown drill last week. As with fire drills and other safety programs, we want to familiarize students and staff with a procedure that they will be able to follow quickly, effectively, and safely. A reminder this Tuesday is a district non-instructional day, so there is no school for students. Kindergarten general registration opens at noon on the parent portal this Wednesday. Please review the information below for some details about the upcoming week.

Primary Science Fair – Parents are invited to attend our Primary Science Fair Open House and visit classes this Thursday, January 30th from 1:30 – 2:00 p.m. All primary and Gr. 3/4 classes are participating (except Division 12). Please note that students must remain in their class with their projects during this time. Students will not be allowed to visit other classes with their parents. We hope to see you there!
Learning Services Gr. 7 to 8 Transition Virtual Parent Information Session, Mon., Jan 27th at 7:00 pm – Are you the parent of a Gr. 7 child with diverse needs starting high school next year? If your Gr. 7 child has an individualized education plan (IEP) and ministry designation, then you are invited to register for an online information session on Mon., Jan. 27th at 7pm. Pre-registration is required at this LINK. In this session you will learn about the registration process, available support structures in high school, and how to support a successful transition to high school.
District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) Grade 7 to 8 Transition Online Information Session, Thurs., Jan. 30th at 7:00 pm – This online session will take place on Zoom and will be broadcast live on the SD42 DPAC YouTube channel. Topics will include portal registration updates, choice registrations, academy programs, information about the Garibaldi Secondary International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program, and more.
Grade 8 Registration – All Grade 8 registration for the 2025-26 school year will be done online through the Parent Portal. The Grade 8 Transfer Period will open at 12:00 noon February 11th. Deadline for completing a request for the Grade 8 Transfer Period is February 25th. Families with children currently enrolled in a Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows School District elementary school should submit an Existing Student Transfer Request in the Grade 8 Transfer Period. Grade 7 Quebec Trip Fundraiser – Help support our Grade 7 students as they fundraise for their trip to Quebec! Start saving your empty bottles now and bring them during school drop-off and pick-up on Tuesday, February 25th. There will be a Drive-thru bottle collection at the front of Laity View Elementary.
