February 24th Update to Families

Dear Laity View Families,

In February we continue to honour Black History Month by teaching about Black stories, Black art, and Black people as well as equality, empathy, and anti-racism.  We are also focusing on kindness.  This Wednesday for Pink Shirt Day, we invite everyone to wear pink shirts/kindness counts shirts and focus on how we can be more positive and kinder to each other.  Please review the information below for some details about the upcoming week.   ​

Jan. 14 – Mar. 14:  Grade 5 Middle Years Development Instrument Timeframe

February 11 – 25:  Grade 8 Transfer Period/Registration (Parent Portal)

Feb.19 – Jul. 25:  Kindergarten Late Registration

Tues., Feb. 25:  Quebec Exchange Bottle Drive Fundraiser at drop off and pick up

Wed., Feb. 26:  Pink Shirt Kindness Counts Day!  The leadership team invites you to wear pink on Wednesday to support and promote kindness and inclusivity.

     PAC Neufeld Farms Fundraiser Orders DUE

Thurs., Feb.  27:  Ski and Snowboard field trip – all day (for those students registered)

     Deadline to order for Subway Hot Lunch (on Mar. 7^th)

Fri., Feb. 28:  Jump Rope for Heart! – schoolwide jump activities throughout the day

     12:25 pm PAC Treat Day – cinnamon buns (pre-order required)

Grade 7 Quebec Exchange Trip Fundraiser – Help support our Grade 7 students as they fundraise for their trip to Quebec!  Start saving your empty bottles now and bring them during school drop-off and pick-up on Tuesday, February 25^th.  There will be a Drive-thru bottle collection at the front of Laity View Elementary.  Need pickup? Text 604-551-5191 to arrange collection.  Thank you for your support! 

Three Way Reporting Conferences, Mar. 13 (early dismissal at 11:30am) and Mar. 14 – Our teachers have put out a sign up for term 2 conferences on the parent portal.  Please be sure to sign up for your desired allotted time of either online or in person conferences.  This is an important time where your child will be showing their learning for the term and setting goals for term 3.  As such, please try to find alternate arrangements for your other children.

Grade 8 Registration – All Grade 8 registration for the 2025-26 school year will be done online through the Parent Portal.  The Grade 8 Transfer Period will open at 12:00 noon February 11^th.  Deadline for completing a request for the Grade 8 Transfer Period is February 25^th.  Families with children currently enrolled in a Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows School District elementary school should submit an Existing Student Transfer Request in the Grade 8 Transfer Period.  Read the Grade 8 Transfer Period Information 2025/26 tab on the school district website for more details. 

Jump Rope for Heart – The Laity View Elementary leadership team is excited to present Jump Rope for Heart on Friday, February 28th.  There are many ways to participate!  All students will get the chance to have fun at a variety of inclusive stations on event day.  Leading up to the event, students will be learning about different ways to take care of their hearts and brains.  Students are also invited to help our school give back to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.  Leadership students will be coming to classes each Friday to collect donations.  Alternatively, you can donate through the Jump website for a chance to win cool prizes (Indigo, Amazon, or Walmart gift cards).  Please follow this link for information:  https://jumpropeforheart.crowdchange.ca/89186 .  All questions can be directed to Mme Edwards at joanna_edwards@sd42.ca .
