Dear Laity View Families,
Love is in the air this week as we see Valentine’s Day upon us. If you are planning to bring a treat to your child’s class, please check with the teacher to be sure that it is appropriate with dietary restrictions for some students.
February is also kindness month at Laity View. We are planning a few schoolwide activities to promote our theme of kindness and then end with Pink Shirt Day on Wed., Feb. 28th. Ask your children to tell you the real acts of kindness read over the announcements each day. A reminder that Friday is a professional development day and Monday is Family Day holiday, so there is no school for students February 14th and 17th. Please review the information below for some details about the upcoming week.

Grade 8 Registration – All Grade 8 registration for the 2025-26 school year will be done online through the Parent Portal. The Grade 8 Transfer Period will open at 12:00 noon February 11th. Deadline for completing a request for the Grade 8 Transfer Period is February 25th. Families with children currently enrolled in a Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows School District elementary school should submit an Existing Student Transfer Request in the Grade 8 Transfer Period. Read the Grade 8 Transfer Period Information 2025/26 tab on the school district website for more details.
Grade 7 Quebec Exchange Trip Fundraiser – Help support our Grade 7 students as they fundraise for their trip to Quebec! Start saving your empty bottles now and bring them during school drop-off and pick-up on Tuesday, February 25th. There will be a Drive-thru bottle collection at the front of Laity View Elementary. Need pickup? Text 604-551-5191 to arrange collection. Thank you for your support!
Visitors – All visitors are expected to report to the office by way of the main entrance. This is a safety measure as it is important for us to know who is in the school. Visitors are also expected to sign the Visitor Log in the office and collect a ‘Visitor’ or ‘Volunteer’ identification tag, which must be displayed while in the building and while on the school grounds outside.
Inclement Weather Procedures – The decision to close schools due to weather conditions is ultimately the responsibility of the Superintendent, who must balance the safety of students, staff, and parents with the need to provide learning. The decision is not taken lightly and is the result of a carefully thought-out process that is reviewed after each experience and refined if necessary. The decision to close schools is made by approximately 6:30 a.m. Details are:
- posted on the SD42 Twitter feed (@sd42news);
- posted on the SD42 Facebook feed (SD42Facebook);
- shared with News 1130, CKNW, and CBC 690 radio stations;
- posted on the SD42 Website (sd42.ca).
Please be sure that your children come to school dressed appropriately to go outside. At recess and lunch, we always go outside unless advised otherwise by the district.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lawrance
