April 7th Update to Families

Dear Laity View Families,

A spring is in everybody’s step with our long-awaited lighter mornings and warmer weather.  Classes are beginning new projects and teachers are planning exciting field trips during this final term.  Please review the information below for some details about the upcoming week.   ​

March 1 – May 2:  Student Learning Surveys Timeframe

Wed., Apr. 9:  2:00 – 3:00 pm PAC Purdy’s Fundraiser PICK UP

Thurs., Apr. 10:  5:30 – 8:00 pm Family Spring Glow Dance – students must attend with a parent / guardian

Intermediate Playground Addition:  You may have noticed the fenced off area beside the intermediate playground.  A huge thank you to our PAC for their fundraising efforts to add a new feature to the intermediate playground.  Here is a catalogue picture of this new feature: Apollo with Floor.  The students are very excited!  A reminder that during the installation process, the fenced off area is completely out of bounds. 

Yearbook Cover Contest – It is that time again for our annual Yearbook Cover Contest.  We invite students to submit a design for the front or back of this year’s Laity View yearbook.  All submissions are due to the office by Friday, April 25^th.  See the yearbook cover contest parent portal message for the criteria. 

Registration for Summer Learning, Apr. 17^th to May 8^th – Parents can register on the parent portal for English or French elementary summer learning and/or secondary summer learning through the parent portal between noon April 17^th and 3pm on May 8^th.  Kindergarten to Grade 6 English is hosted at c̓əsqənelə Elementary and French is hosted at Laity View Elementary both from 9:00 am – 12:20 pm and Grade 7 to 8 Transition is hosted at THSS.  For more information about summer learning, please review the flyer at https://www.sd42.ca/assets/media/2025-02-10-Summer-Learning-Options-2025.pdf .  Accompanying the elementary summer learning, there are Positive Power Camps from 12:20 – 2:20 pm.  These camps offer games and activities designed to build confidence, strengthen teamwork and communication, and to learn to manage stress.  For more information about summer learning Positive Power Camps, please review the flyer at https://www.sd42.ca/assets/media/SD42-Afternoon-Camp-2025.pdf .

Student Learning Surveys – If you have a student in Grade 4 or 7, parents are invited to complete a Student Learning Survey.  This year, parents do not need a logon code to access the online Student Learning Survey.  Electronic surveying is available until May 2^nd.  The website to access the electronic survey is: www.bced.gov.bc.ca/sat_survey/access.htm.  Please do not use Safari as there is currently a glitch with this browser.  We invite you to take 15 minutes of your time to fill this out.  The more parents who complete these surveys, the higher quality of feedback we will receive.  Your input is appreciated.
