Spring PRIMARY Cross Country Training – Primary Cross Country practices began last Thursdsay. They practice Tuesday and Thursday at recess at Volker Park. Students meet at Ms. Carissa’s room and walk over together. Race day is May 21st at Albion Sports Field for students in Kindergarten – Grade. 3. Students get a permission form by attending practice and need a form to compete on race day. Any questions, please email Carissa_Keenan@sd42.ca. Thank you, and we look forward to our primary cross country event!
Reminders from the Office – Please help us minimize disruption and keep students safe.
- All students must enter the building through their outside door/line up area in the morning until after the second bell (8:30am).
- Students attending breakfast club wait outside the front entrance until a staff member lets them inside once they are set up and ready.
- All visitors must report to the office first, especially if dropping off items for students. Then we will call students down to the office in order to pick up items dropped off.
- If picking students up early, please come close to the time that was arranged (e.g. coming too early means the office has to search for them if they are not in their classroom).
- Please remember to notify not only the classroom teacher but also the office of an absence or early dismissal or when arriving late.
Parent Input Regarding Student Placement for 2025-2026 – We are beginning to create our classes for next year. Please be assured that staff devote considerable time, care and attention to this process. This very complex and lengthy responsibility occurs over several weeks and continues into September when class placements are finalized.
Throughout the year, there have been many opportunities for parents and teachers to discuss each child. Staff work together to consider the following criteria very carefully: social emotional skills and relationships, as well as learning styles, strengths, and needs. Our goal is to create safe and engaging inclusive classrooms that balance these factors, as equitably as possible.
If you feel there is further information to consider about your child, you may submit input to the principal or vice-principal (and/or your child’s classroom teacher) in writing using the FORM on the school website or by sending an email to lisa_lawrance@sd42.ca or katherine_ross@sd42.ca by May 30th. Please refrain from requesting specific teachers or peers by name. As class placement at Laity View is a collaborative process, parent input forms are shared with all teachers for discussion.
Note: Input form will be available on the school website (same location as weekly updates) by Monday afternoon or pick up a copy at the office.
Registration for Summer Learning, Apr. 17th to May 8th – Parents can register on the parent portal for English or French elementary summer learning and/or secondary summer learning through the parent portal between noon April 17thand 3pm on May 8th. Student Learning Surveys – If you have a student in Grade 4 or 7, parents are invited to complete a Student Learning Survey. This year, parents do not need a logon code to access the online Student Learning Survey. Electronic surveying is available until May 2nd. The website to access the electronic survey is: www.bced.gov.bc.ca/sat_survey/access.htm. Please do not use Safari as there is currently a glitch with this browser. We invite you to take 15 minutes of your time to fill this out. The more parents who complete these surveys, the higher quality of feedback we will receive. Your input is appreciated.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lawrance
