April 22nd Update to Families

Dear Laity View Families,

Monday is Earth Day!  We encourage your family to participate in an initiative to reduce your electricity, emissions, and waste footprint.  Also, a reminder of the upcoming PAC meeting on Monday at 9am in the CoLab.  Please review the information below for some details about the upcoming week.

Mon., Apr. 22:  Earth Day!

     9:00 am PAC Meeting (CoLab)

Tues., Apr. 23:  April 23^rd is World Book Day!  To celebrate, we are inviting students to tell everyone about their favourite book.  All students are invited to complete the attached FORM and we will display it in front of the library for everyone to see.  This is a great way for everyone to discover their next favourite book and share their love of reading on World Book Day!  If you are unable to print the form for any reason, please stop by the library anytime to grab a copy!  Happy reading!  Sincerely, Natalie Clark – LVE Teacher Librarian

Grade 7 Samosa Sale Fundraiser – Help the Grade 7s fundraise for the Grade 7 Leaving Ceremony and activities by purchasing some delicious samosas and more!  Order deadline is April 24^th (NEW deadline) and pick up is on May 10^th at the school.

SD42 2024-2025 Proposed Preliminary Budget – At its April 17^th public meeting, the Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows Board of Education received the Proposed Preliminary Budget 2024/25 for information.  The board welcomes your feedback on this proposed budget.  To provide your input through the online survey, go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2024-25-budget.  This survey will be open from April 18^th until April 25^th.

Yearbook Cover Contest – It is that time again for our annual Yearbook Cover Contest.  We invite students to submit a design for the front or back of this year’s Laity View yearbook.  All submissions are due to the office by Friday, April 26^th.  See the yearbook cover contest parent portal message for the criteria.

Registration for Summer Learning, Apr. 18 to May 9 – Parents can register for English or French elementary summer learning and/or secondary summer learning through the parent portal between noon April 18^th and 3pm on May 9^th.  Accompanying the elementary summer learning, which is being hosted at Laity View Elementary, there are Afternoon Multi-Sport Camps from 12:20 – 2:20 pm.  These registered camps offer drills, games, and activities to develop teamwork and sport skills at all levels.  For more information about summer learning, please review the flyer at https://www.sd42.ca/assets/media/SD42-Summer-Learning-2024.pdf.  For more information about the afternoon sport camps and registration, please review the flyer at https://www.sd42.ca/assets/media/SD42-Afternoon-Multi-sport-Camp-2024.pdf.

Student Learning Surveys – If you have a student in Grade 4 or 7, parents are invited to complete a Student Learning Survey.  This year, parents do not need a logon code to access the online Student Learning Survey.  Electronic surveying is available until May 3^rd.  The website to access the electronic survey is:  http://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/sat_survey/access.htm.  We invite you to take 15 minutes of your time to fill this out.  The more parents who complete these surveys, the higher quality of feedback we will receive.  Your input is appreciated.
