Volunteer Application
Only complete packages will be accepted
All Volunteers – Please return the following items to your classroom teacher.
Volunteer Drivers – In addition to the above items, please also provide the following:
- SD42 Volunteer Driver Application Form
- Driver’s Abstract (must be obtained within one week of application)
Please show your child’s classroom teacher the following listed below, along with your completed Driver Volunteer package:
- Vehicle Insurance Documents (including 2nd page showing 3rd party liability)
- Valid BC Driver’s License
Criminal Record Check – Is required if you are driving or if when volunteering you will be supervising a group of students. If you are unsure, please ask your child’s teacher.

How do I obtain a Driver’s Abstract?
Visit the ICBC website:
1) Manage my licence & ID
2) Get a copy of my driving record
3) Click on “Get your driving records”
4) Sign in using your BC Services Card account or sign in by verifying your identity with your bank’s Interac Verification Service (this step is new in 2026)
5) Choose the Personal Driving Record (driver’s abstract) option – 5 Years of claims history
6) enter your personal email address (please do not use the school email address)
Please note: if you have a Novice (N) licence, you are not permitted to drive any children other than your own.
How do I request a Criminal Record Check?
*This can take 1 day to 2 weeks to obtain and cannot be requested last minute*

How long are my documents good for?
- Criminal Record Check: Valid for a Maximum of 5 Years, depending on date of issue.
- Volunteer Form:
Parents – Valid for as long as your student attends Kanaka Creek Elementary.
All other volunteers – Valid for current school year only
- Volunteer Driver Form: Expires July 31st every year or sooner if your driver’s licence or insurance expires prior to July 31st .

Option 1: Using BC Service Card
Criminal Record Check Application Process
To ensure a smooth and efficient process for submitting criminal record checks, please follow the guidelines provided in this section.
Access Code and Secure Link
Kanaka Creek has a unique access code and secure link to provide to applicants to submit their criminal record checks online.

Our access code is 8ZETXHW4YM (This code is only good for volunteers of Kanaka Creek Elementary)
Applicants then follow the link and enter the organization access code to access the online application for a criminal record check.
Organization Information – Job Title- Enter Volunteer
Term of use– Must scroll all the way to the bottom, and check that you have read and that you accept the above
The applicant MUST choose to have their ID verified using their BC Services Card login option. Do not use the “Continue without option.” If you choose not to use the BC Service Card option, please come by the front entrance and pick up letter to have the Criminal record check done through the local RCMP.

Option 2- Obtain a copy through the local RCMP

Option 3: Existing Criminal Record Checks
Volunteers may already have a recent Criminal Record Check through another organization or employer (for example, a daycare, sports association, or community organization). Please provide a copy of your most recent Criminal Record Check for the school to review. Please ensure the report includes a Vulnerable Sector Check and is dated within the past five years.
Option 4: School District #42, Only
School District #42 employees do not require a Vulnerable Sector Check to be competed. Please provide the school with your district email address.
