Weekly Memo June 24-28, 2024

June 23, 2024 By Tanya Dailey

On Thursday afternoon we hosted our annual parent tea.  Again, a huge thank you to all of the parent volunteers for helping make the school year so successful.

Congratulations to Mrs. Matlock whom on Thursday evening was recognized by Sport BC for her dedication to elementary sport, as she was awarded a Community Sports Hero Award.

Friday was a very busy day at Albion.  We began our day by recognizing Indigenous People’s Day with Jamie, our Ab. Ed. Support Worker, drumming our Aboriginal and Metis students into the gym.   This touching presentation was followed  by the recognition of our intermediate track and field participants who placed in the top 10 at the District Track and Field meet a few weeks ago and our annual Talent Show where our students cheered as participants took to the stage.  An outstanding job was done by all whom performed!  A huge thank you to our teachers for organizing a great fun day afternoon and also thank you to our PAC for cooking up 750 hot dogs for lunch and giving everyone freezies at the end of the day!

We are down to our last 2 days and lots is planned.  On Monday morning we will have our end assembly followed by our annual school wide trivia game.  In the afternoon beginning at 1:00 pm we will have our tug-a-war.  Parents are invited to come and cheer the students on.

Our Grade 7 Leaving ceremony on Tuesday will begin at 9:00 am and all students will be dismissed at 12:00 pm.

All yearbooks were handed out on Friday.  If you missed out and would like to order one please visit the following link

PAC News
Message for the PAC Executive

Our PAC has had an absolutely amazing year, and we could not have done it without you!  A big goal of ours is community building activities, and thanks to the generosity of families and local groups, we were able to host many low or no cost events. Please take a look at the attached flyer to see all we have accomplished this year.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to those who have volunteered their time this year.  Our volunteers coordinated a bottle drive, cooked hotdogs, hosted a market, created flyers, handed out hundreds of hot lunches, cooked pancakes in -20 degree weather, and gave up their family time to help at our dance and carnival.  Mrs. Dailey and Mr. Sheridan also deserve huge thank yous for giving up so much of their personal time to support our PAC.
Albion families are active families, with little to no time to spare, but please know, your involvement with PAC, no matter how great or small, makes a difference. We have some amazing plans for the next school year, and are looking forward to collaborating with more families as we support our students and ensure they have an amazing experience at Albion Elementary.  We hope you have a safe and enjoyable summer, and will see you all in September!

Reminders
Medication Pick Up

A reminder that if your child has medication at the school it will need to be picked up.  All medical forms MUST be updated on an annual basis.  Please stop by the office to pick up the medication.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact the office.

Lost and Found
The lost and found bin remains very full.  All items are displayed out on tables and any unclaimed items after Tuesday, June 25th will be donated to charity.

School Supplies for 2024-2025
A reminder that this September Albion Elementary will continue with the school supply program.  A flat fee of $55 per child (planner not included) will be charged. This flat fee of $55 per child will cover ALL personal school supplies that each child will need for the school year.

This flat fee will ensure that school supplies bought for all students:
-Are the appropriate learning supplies for the grade level.
-Are of good quality and will last the year.
                -Are cost effective.
-Will eliminate the “hassle” factor many families experience struggling to find required supplies.
-Will help to reduce visible inequalities with regards to student socio economic situations by ensuring everyone has the consistent and comparable
learning materials

How will this process work?
Classroom teachers have bulk ordered the required student school supplies. Supplies will be delivered to the school in August and will be ready for use when children arrive in September.

Any families with additional questions about this process, or who are concerned about financial hardship, are encouraged to speak with Mrs. Dailey or their classroom teacher directly for assistance.

Classroom teachers will request school supply money in September once new classrooms have been established.

BC Summer Games
The BC Summer Games is coming to Maple Ridge and volunteers are needed.  Our school will also be used for athlete accommodations.  If you are interested in volunteering, all volunteers must sign up through the BC Games Website: https://bcgames.org/volunteer/  and select the accommodations directorate as their placement. After online registration occurs, you will then be contacted and placed  into specific jobs within the Accommodation’s Directorate.
