This week was spent celebrating Lunar New Year. A huge thank you to Mr. Jung and Ms. Wiens for organizing our Lunar New Year Parade.
Please visist the online link of local newspaper The News for some more photos of this fabulous event.
February is Black History and Kindness Month
Through the month of February our students will be spending time learning about Black History and will also be participating in some school wide activities that focus on Kindness.
Tomorrow we will be kicking off our weekly Kindness game of Bingo. Each student wanting to participate will obtain a Kindness bingo card from outside the office. As they complete a bingo line they can put their bingo card into a weekly draw for a prize. Students can enter as many times as they wish. There will be a school wide draw for 5 winners each Monday.
This week we will be starting a school wide chain of kindness. Students will write a kind message on a chain link and then this link will be hung in our school hallway. The hope is to have the chain go from one end of the school to the other.
Also, this week, there will be Kindness Boards in the hallways. Students will be encouraged to recognize an act of Kindness that was performed by another person and then post a stickie note on the Kindness Board to share it with others.
Our PAC is still collecting beads as our hope is throughout the month for students to make kindness bracelets to give to one another on February 26th.

School Closure Decision: Snow
The decision to close schools due to accumulating snowfall is ultimately the responsibility of the superintendent, who must balance the safety of students, staff and parents with the need to provide learning. The decision is not taken lightly and is the result of a carefully thought out process that is reviewed after each experience and refined if necessary.
Except in rare circumstances, no announcement will be made if schools are open.
The decision to close schools is made by 6:30 a.m. Details are:
- posted on the SD42 Website (www.sd42.ca).
- posted on the SD42 Facebook feed (SD42Facebook);
- posted on the SD42 Twitter feed (@sd42news);
- shared with News 1130, CKNW, and CBC 690 radio stations.
Please note: The district supports individual and family decisions regarding safety. Parents/guardians have primary responsibility for their children’s safe travel to school. If, for any reason, there are personal concerns about the ability to travel safely to school, other arrangements should be made.
Colder Weather and Extra Clothing
This week, colder weather is in the forecast and parents are asked to please ensure that their child is dressed appropriately to be outside during recess and lunch.
Temperatures do have a tendency to warm up at lunch time therefore, creating a very muddy playground. After lunch we tend to have a number of students wishing to call home for a change of clothing. Please help us elimiate these phone calls by ensuring your child has an extra change of clothes in their backpack.
Extra Gloves and Toques
There is a bin of extra gloves and toques located in the front entrance of the school. This bin is open to all students. If families have any gloves and/or toques that they wish to donate please send them with your child to school.
