COMMUNITY READERS PROGRAM – WE STILL NEED READERS!
We are launching a “Community Readers” program to help us achieve our reading goal. We invite family members and caregivers to sign up as community readers. Each Friday between 8:30 am and 9:00 am the Community Readers, Mme Lendvoy and Mme Perry will read with primary students in the library. Our Support Teachers and Class Teachers will select the students and the reading materials. We welcome volunteers who would like to support reading in both French or English. If you would like to be a community reader please email chelsea_lendvoy@sd42.ca or rachael_perry@sd42.ca. We will send a Volunteer Form home with your student for you to complete and return. Please indicate to us in your email if you already have a completed Volunteer Form on file. You do not need to commit for the entire school year. Please share your availability in your email.
We are looking forward to working together to reach our goals!
EXPANDING BREAKFAST PROGRAM
Did you know our school has a breakfast program for students in need? The program is open every morning from 8:00-8:25 and takes place in Ms. Cora’s room. If your child is in need of breakfast to start their day please email Cora (cora_lindgren@sd42.ca). Please also indicate if your child requires supervision from 8:00-8:25 or if they can be dismissed outside (unsupervised) after they finish eating.
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION INFORMATION
THE GIVING TREE
A giving tree is a way to bring the community and families together to spread joy during the holiday season. Each year Maple Ridge Elementary Staff, PAC and Community assist in supporting families during this time of giving. This year we have decided to try something a little different.
The giving tree model is to ensure that all children and youth experience the magic this time of year. Each ornament has information with a child’s needs and wishes for this season of celebration. Gifts, hygiene and household essentials, and a holiday meal are just some of the ways that The Giving Tree can alleviate the financial stress of the season, allowing families to enjoy time together making memories.
This would be an amazing opportunity to have your children involved in the process of giving. If you would like to support a child during the holiday season, please take an ornament off the tree, located at the entrance of the school.
Your donations will greatly impact and bring smiles to the student and their family. If you have any questions regarding specific items or inquiries contact cora_lindgren@sd42.ca. Please drop off any unwrapped, donated items along with this tag to Ms.Cora’s room (#1025) no later than Friday, Nov 29.
Happy Holidays!

MRE… THE PLACE TO READ!
The whole school participated in our first Reading Blast of the year on Thursday afternoon. Students were excited to drop what they were doing, pick up a book, and read!
We launched our year long reading challenge. We are hoping to get students excited about reading by sharing the books they are enjoying in a school-wide display!
Each class will receive a book template, to fill in about books they have read and enjoyed. These will be displayed in all our hallways, with classes in each hallway working together to create a “pathway” of books.
By June, we hope to have a visual representation of all the reading students have done! Thank you in advance for participating in Birds of a Feather… Read Together!
In addition to the amazing work that all our educators do every day to support reading we have introduced the before school Reading Centre, designated EA reading blocks, and the Community Readers program.
ERASE WEBSITE
The ERASE (Expect Respect and a Safe Education) program is an initiative by the BC Ministry of Education designed to help make schools safer and more supportive for students. It gives students, parents, and teachers resources to address issues like bullying, discrimination, mental health, and substance use. Through ERASE, students can anonymously report concerns if they see or experience something unsafe or harmful. This reporting tool connects directly with school staff to ensure quick support and resolution. Students can report through the QR code or by going to https://erasereportit.gov.bc.ca

Hosting an international student allows you and your family to experience new cultures and connections while making a significant difference in a student’s life. Host families are a valuable part of the Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows International Education program and provide our students with support to help them adjust to living away from home. This support helps students have a positive experience both academically and out of school.
Whether you have hosted in the past or are new to the experience, we have varying program lengths, allowing you to choose which works best for your family.
