THIS WEEK
MRE has caught Canucks fever with many students wearing their jerseys with pride! Several classes made posters and have been having a blast in front of the school engaging community spirit on game days. We were delighted to meet next year’s Kindergarten students and their families at our Ready Set Kindergarten! Day. Welcome! The Grade 7 students who took part in MRE’s first trip to Quebec returned full of stories to share. The trip was a huge success! And finally, teamwork, resilience, and fitness were evident during our annual Track & Field event. Thank you to our community of educators who regularly go the extra mile to provide these meaningful learning opportunities for our students.

LOCKDOWN AWARENESS
All classes will be learning about lockdown protocols on Tuesday. This will include simple information shared over the announcements to allow teachers to continue grade-appropriate discussions with their students afterward. A lockdown is a safety measure used to isolate students and staff from a danger in or outside of the school. In the event of a lockdown, students will return to class and remain there quietly until given the all-clear. We are required to review lockdown protocols annually.

CLASS PLACEMENTS – NEXT YEAR (Sept. 2024)
We are beginning to create our classes for next year. Please be assured that staff devote considerable time, care and attention to this process. This very complex and lengthy responsibility occurs over several weeks and continues into September when class placements are finalized.
Throughout the year, there have been many opportunities for parents and teachers to discuss each child. Staff work together to consider the following criteria very carefully: social-emotional skills and relationships, as well as learning styles, strengths and needs. Our goal is to create safe and engaging inclusive classrooms that balance these factors, as equitably as possible.
If you feel there is further information to consider about your child, you may submit input to the principal in writing by May 31, 2023. Please refrain from requesting specific teachers or peers by name. You can email: chelsea_lendvoy@sd42.ca
BAND
Please contact your student’s teacher for more information and a registration form.
HEALTH AWARENESS
We are continuing to practice Health Awareness this year for everyone entering our school – this includes staff, students, and visitors. Health awareness includes checking regularly for any symptoms of illness (including, but not limited to, COVID-19 symptoms) and staying home when sick.
ATTENDANCE
If you know that your child is going to be late or absent from school, please let us know through either the parent portal, by calling us at 604-467-5551 or by emailing mre_reception@sd42.ca. If you know your child will be absent multiple days in a row you can enter them all at once so that you do not need to update it each day.
