Please understand that our school gets extremely busy around drop off and pick up times. When you combine this with the minimal parking in the area and the commuter traffic going down Kanaka Way, it can be a very challenging place in the morning. It is important that we remember our etiquette is meant to keep the students who are walking/ driving as safe as possible. Thus, please remember the following:
Parking Inside the Lot – Please only park in the lot of there is a designated spot that doesn’t say “staff”. Please don’t park in the drop off zone at any time. Please don’t park in the fire lanes at the back of the school UNLESS you are driving a daycare van OR have a disability permit and the other disability permit spots are full.
Driving Around the School – please remember to keep your speed under 30 km/h while driving on the lanes and roads around the area. Further, please be extremely careful near the cross walks (some of our students aren’t that careful when walking across roads). Please also know that this pass through will be closed during recess at 10:20-10:35 and during our lunch from 11:55-12:35 pm as our Grade 6 and 7 students are playing in the area.
Parking Around the School – Please be respectful of our neighbours and only park in designated spots. Please do not block any driveways or lanes.
Drop Off / Pick Up Lane – This is meant for quick drop off’s or pick up only. If you need to get out of your car, please don’t use this zone. While it is near one of our kindergarten classes, please know it is best if you don’t use this area as a kindergarten parent since you’ll need to be available to “hand off” your child to your teacher. The zone is closed in the afternoon until 2:25pm. This ensures it moves as quickly as possible once students are let out.
Entrances/ Exits – Please do NOT enter the school through its exits (Gilker Hill or the southwest gate by the parking lot). We welcomes daycare vans and those vehicles with accessibility tags to come in early and park in the fire lane. All other drivers need to wait until the gate reopens at 2:25. If you see a spot in the lot, you can ask to park in it.
Again, we thank you for keeping our students and community safe.
