Girls’ Basketball– A big congratulations to the Kanaka Girls Competitive Basketball on a spectacular week of basketball. On Wednesday the girls played Pitt Meadows Elementary in the championship semi-final and won by one point in the last 5 seconds of the game. This victory sent them to the championship game at Westview on Thursday. The girls played as a team with lots of hard work and heart but they came up short by 3 points to place 2nd in the district. We are so very proud of the following dedicated athletes Ava W, Molly B , Lauren F, Taylor M, Zoe B, Gabby G, Brooke B, Brianne L, Nixin W, Alaina H, Sydney J And Hailey C. Thank you for an amazing season!
Fish Fundraiser– You have the opportunity to help support us with supplies for our fish tank. This can be done one of three ways:
– buy a wooden fish to be painted and fixed on the fence bordering Kanaka Way. You can go on the portal and pay for a fish if you want for $8 each. Fish will be given March 26-29. They can be taken home, painted over the break, and brought back to be attached to the fence after the break.
– donate directly to the school. Donations over $25 can receive a tax receipt. Cheques need to be made out to School District #42 and can be dropped off at the office.
– Bring a toonie in the last week in March for a toonie drive.
** if you submitted a wooden fish fee but did not select the number of fish you wanted, your order has not gone through. Please email Mr. Raible for questions/concerns. **
Buddy Bench– Our Buddy Bench is now installed and being used at recess and lunch. The buddy bench is a great way to promote inclusivity on our playground. Need a friend? Sit on the bench and someone will come and ask you to play. We’d like to thank the PAC for supporting this initiative.
Yearbook Colouring Contest – For this year’s school Yearbook, we are holding a contest to design the front cover. Any student can enter. Get out your crayons, pencils or paints and make a winning design! Make sure you do it in FULL colour.
For your entry to be considered, it must follow these rules:
- Use a regular 8.5 x 11 sheet of white paper
- Make your cover is vertical (up and down, not side to side)
- Include the school name and “2018 -2019” in the design
- Include your first name
Also, make sure to put your whole name and Division or Teacher’s name on the back of your design. All entries are due by May 17.
Student Led Conferences– Our student led conferences are currently taking place. Please remember that this is one of our formal reports and, as such, parents/guardians are expected to attend with their child(ren). Please contact your child(ren)’s teacher should you have any questions/concerns. Please also know that this time is meant to be dedicated around your child’s success/growth and so, if possible, please make arrangements for child care for any siblings.
BC Wheelchair Sports Association– A huge thank you to Ms. Moore for donating and coordinating the coaching and use of wheel chairs at Kanaka. We’ll have approximately ten wheel chairs in our building from March 25th– March 29thto be used in games during gym classes.
Lost and Found– We have a large number of items in our lost and found. We will be donating these items to charity during the April break. Please make a point while you are in for conferences to wander past our lost and found located by the front door.
