September 2nd – Update to Families

Dear Families,

Just a final message regarding our school start up for this week to help things go smoothly!

When arriving at both Webster’s Corners (Gr.1-3) and Albion (Gr.4-7) Elementary Schools look for our c̓əsqənelə canopies in front of the school. We will have staff with maps at these canopies to ensure students and parents can easily find our temporary classrooms.

For students in grades 4 through 7, please be aware that Albion Elementary is a large school with a busy parking lot so leave plenty of time for your pick up and drop off routines. If you can park a couple of blocks away and walk over it will definitely be easier for your family.

We can now use the District’s Parent Portal to communicate school updates – I am going to begin to send out school correspondence this way. I will continue with our mass email list for the next couple of weeks in case some families do not have their account up to date. We will then move over to only communicating via the Parent Portal so please check your account if not receiving updates through the portal.

We are very much looking forward to meeting you and your children to begin this exciting journey of creating a new school community together!

1. What to Expect Next Week:

• School is in session from 8:30-11am this Tuesday September 3^rd
• Regular school hours 8:30-2:20pm begin from Wednesday onwards.
• We will be doing a “soft start” each day with classrooms open every day from 8:15am onwards and attendance done slightly later.
• Kindergarten families already have their gradual entry information and we will continue to follow this same schedule just at the Kanaka Creek and Blue Mountain school sites

2. Our Temporary School Office(s) & Phone Number(s):

For these first three weeks we will have secretaries working both at Albion and Webster’s Corners schools. Mrs. Whittington will work in the main Albion Office and Mrs. Ulriksen will work out of our temporary office space across from the main Webster’s Corners office. If you need to contact us with questions or absence/late information either:

• In the case of an emergency you may also contact the main office of your child’s host school directly.

3. Partial School Supply Lists:

• To minimize the amount of supplies that students bring to our temporary school sites we ask that they only bring the items listed below for the first three weeks. These items are the essentials we need to begin learning routines quickly. We will ask for the additional school supply items (not listed below) to be brought to c̓əsqənelə later in September.

Intermediate:

• Package of lined duotang paper (200 sheets maximum)

4. Moving to New Classrooms:

• If everything goes according to plan we intend to move students to their new classrooms  Tuesday of the second week (September 10^th).
