Dear Families,
I hope this school update finds everyone healthy and well. A BIG thank you to the parents and kids who created all the positive signs of support and chalk images around our school this weekend. What amazing school spirit and a wonderful way to start the school week!
I am glad to see as we have moved further away from Spring Break and Easter the COVID related school notifications from Fraser Health have slowed. Thank you to all families for remaining vigilant, and keeping social contacts limited, as we navigate these final weeks of the school year. Please continue to check daily that your child has a mask where appropriate as they will be mandatory for children in grades 4-7, and recommended in the primary grades, for the remainder of the school year.
Just a few additional updates to ensure the next few days go well for the students.
- PAC’s Flower and Plant fundraiser will be delivered later this week. We will send out a message with specific information about pick up times once the company has confirmed when the flowers/plants will definitely be delivered to the school.
- Student Supplies Update – c̓əsqənelə will again be ordering bulk school supplies for student’s personal school supplies for this coming year. We will continue to charge a flat fee of $55 per child (planner included). This flat fee of $55 will cover ALL personal school supplies that each child will need for the school year. If any family wishes to purchase supplies separately they will again have this option when additional information is sent home in June.
- Class Placement Process– Each June our staff works very closely together over a number of meetings to create classes for next year. Please be assured that staff devote considerable time, care and attention to this process. This process occurs over several weeks and continues into September when class placements are finalized. Staff work together to consider the following criteria very carefully: social emotional skills and relationships, as well as learning styles, strengths and needs. Our goal is to create safe and engaging inclusive classrooms that balance these factors, as equitably as possible. If you feel there is further information to consider about your child, you may submit this input to Mr. Wheatley in writing by June 1st, 2021 (jonathan_wheatley@sd42.ca). Please refrain from requesting specific teachers or peers by name.
- Do You Know of Anyone Who is Moving? We have a number of families waiting for a spot in our wonderful school and would greatly appreciate your assistance in making an accurate calculation of student enrolment for September. To help us plan as accurately as possible we are asking all parents whose children will definitely NOT be attending c̓əsqənelə Elementary in September to contact the school office. This request does not apply to Grade 7 students moving on to their selected high school. If you are aware of any families who have moved (or will be moving) into the area, please encourage them to contact the school to register their child(ren) prior to the end of June.
