Dear Families,
Just a couple of updates and reminders for this week.
In acknowledgement of the tragedy at the Kamloops residential school site and as a sign of respect, the Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School Districts will be lowering flags at all of its buildings beginning today. Staff and students are invited to wear orange throughout the week to honour the lives of the children who were lost and to demonstrate that every child matters. You will also start to notice the orange ribbons tied to the black railing in front of the library. There will be 215 ribbons placed there by intermediate classes to recognize the discovery of the remains that were found on the Kamloops Residential School site. The ribbons should start appearing later today and will be in place until Friday. Please ask children not to remove them. If you have a chance, you may wish to take a walk to view them and to pause for a moment to reflect on the lives lost or what actions we as Canadians can take moving forward.
This is the Final week to check out library books. Please return any library books that you may still have at home by June 11th
This week many of our intermediate students are filming a musical in the gym! Congratulations to Mrs. Palmer, Mr. Sawyer, and all of the talented intermediate performers for creating our first school production. There was a ton of creativity that went onto transforming a live musical into a “COVID safe” TV production. Congratulations to everyone involved!
