Dear Families,
I just wanted to give everyone a quick update before the weekend about a few organizational items but first…. A big thank you to all families who returned this week for “in class” instruction. Your approach to this new context helped make our new school routines quite comfortable for your child(ren). I am also so impressed with our school team and how skillfully they have incorporated these new routines so naturally into their classrooms. Things have gone very smoothly and all the kids seem to be having a lot of fun! We will continue to work hard to ensure that c’usqunela is a safe and enjoyable place for your children.
If any other families decide to switch to part-time, in-classroom instruction in the coming weeks, please contact our office on the Friday before the week your child will return to in-class instruction so that we can put plans in place to accommodate the request.
Pac Update:
Come and join your school PAC, on June 18, 2020 at 7:30 PM. We will have our monthly PAC meeting via zoom and meeting log in information will be sent out a couple of days before. We will be reviewing all PAC positions for the 2020/2021 school year. New PAC will be voted in during our September 10, 2020 PAC meeting. Positions will be held from September 2020- June 2021. Things look a little different this year with Covid-19. We were not able to hold our annual AGM in June to vote in our new PAC, so we have rescheduled that meeting for September 10. I have attached PAC positions for your review, we will be giving a short description during the meeting in June. Our school PAC cannot run without parent volunteers. Please consider joining c’usqunela school PAC for 2020/2021. If you have any questions or if you wish to nominate someone please do not hesitate to e-mail me directly at joannewilson13@hotmail.com. We hope to see some new families during our June 18 PAC meeting at 7:30 PM. The Positions on a PAC are typically:
Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Fundraising Coordinator, Member at Large, Communication Coordinator, DPAC Representative, Emergency Preparedness, Sun Shine Committee.
Student School Supplies Update (pick up for this year and plans for next year)
For families continuing with the online learning only, we will be sending out information next week, regarding how you can collect your child’s remaining supplies and clothing before summer. For next year, our staff has created plan to help with school supplies for next year which is outlined below.
To help families purchase their children’s personal school supplies, beginning this September c̓əsqənelə Elementary, is charging a flat fee of $55 per child (planner included). This flat fee of $55 will cover ALL personal school supplies (planner included) that each child will need for the school year. Parents will have the option to pay $55 once in September or over two installments (September-$30, February-$25). For most families this means….one payment, once a year, to take care of all their child(ren)’s personal school supply needs. This flat fee will ensure that school supplies bought for all students:
- Are the appropriate learning supplies for the grade level
- Are of good quality and will last the year
- Are cost effective
- Will eliminate the “hassle” factor many families experience struggling to find required supplies
- Will help to reduce visible inequalities with regards to student socio economic situations by ensuring everyone has the consistent and comparable learning materials
How will this process work?
Classroom teachers will bulk order the required student school supplies in May and throughout the year as needed. Supplies will be delivered to the school in August and will be ready for use when children arrive in September. Teachers will ensure that students have the school supplies children require throughout the school year. If a child leaves part way through the year they will be provided with supplies to take with them for their new school.
Any families with additional questions about this process, or who are concerned about financial hardship, are encouraged to talk with their classroom teacher directly for assistance.
