Dear Families,
With the end of the year approaching I wanted to help everyone stay informed and organized by highlighting a few things to expect in the coming days.
- Scheduling and Reporting Details:
- This year’s last day of school for students is Wednesday June 24th with dismissal at
12 noon. With our adjusted school schedule however, students participating with “in class” instruction, may find that their actual last day could be the Monday or Tuesday of this week depending upon which classroom grouping they are in.
- For families participating only in the online instruction, classroom teachers will/have been connecting with you, to provide opportunities to pick up any remaining clothing and materials in the coming days.
- Report Cards for the students summarizing academic progress this year will be sent home via the parent portal on Monday June 22nd. These final reports will consider students’ progress from term one and two as well as any learning completed during this third term.
- This year our staff has worked really hard to try and create a great place for children to learn and laugh. Before we leave for summer we want to get a little bit of feedback from students and families on what worked well and anything else we should consider. There will be a short feedback form that will be sent home on Monday. Please take a few minutes to complete this short feedback form when you see it next week to help us to continue to make c̓əsqənelə into the best place possible for children.
- Student School Supplies
As mentioned in last Friday’s Weekly Update, next year our school is moving towards a flat fee model for ordering students’ school supplies. While I think this supply process will work well for most families there is no one perfect approach. Most of the rationale for this process was explained in the first message so I won’t repeat that here again. What was not mentioned however, was that we already had 75% of our students ordering supplies directly in one manner or another last year so this process is not a significant change for most. Staff who had done this approach at their previous schools also spoke very highly of its benefits (re: better supplies & ability to purchase more supplies for the kids). We think for many families this process will work well, but if that is not the case for yours, just email me your preference to still purchase your children’s supplies next year, and I will send you the supply lists.
- Staffing Updates
Our school has been fortunate to have a very talented teaching staff this year. While most staff are returning, Mr. Mitchell and Mrs.Borghardt are retiring, and Mrs. Robinson has accepted a position at Golden Ears. We wish them well in their new adventures next year and beyond!
As a school we have also been busy quietly growing over the past few weeks. With all of the development around our school we will be adding another 130+ students this coming September. To plan for this growth we have hired an additional 12 teaching staff. We were able to again hire some amazing educators from across the District to be part of our school community! New staff your children will meet next year include:
Mrs. Fuller, Mrs. Medeiros, Mr. Medeiros, Mrs. Windblad, Mr. Barichello
Mrs. Charboneau Mrs. Chou, Mrs. Grant, Mrs. Doughty, Mr. Sawyer, Mrs. Brown
As we approach the end of this school year please rest assured that we will continue to provide school updates regarding all September start up details as soon as we know in July and August.
Sincerely,
Mr. Wheatley
