Friday Blast

HALLOWEEN

As Halloween approaches, we would like to remind everyone to be thoughtful and inclusive when selecting a costume to wear at school. The choice of costume should always be respectful of the diverse cultural and lived experiences of all the members of our school communities.

Please consider the two following guidelines when you and/or your child are making the costume selection:

  • Be kind and consider the school community. Costumes that could be offensive or perpetuate the stereotype of someone’s gender identity, culture, race, religion, age, or disability must not be worn.
  • Be thoughtful and safe. Costumes that depict violence, alcohol or drugs are not appropriate. Similarly, replica weapons (e.g. guns, knives, etc.) must not be brought to school.

We appreciate your consideration and thank you for helping keep our schools safe, caring, and inclusive this Halloween.

HALLOWEEN FOOD DRIVE

The grade 7 leadership group is running a food drive to help people in our community. We will be collecting donations of money and non-perishable food items from October 26th – November 2nd. Leadership students will come to classes each morning to collect donations.

All donations will be given to the Friends in Need food bank. Thank you for helping people in our community – together, we can scare hunger!

ABORIGINAL EDUCATION FAMILY NIGHT

There will be a fun-filled evening for students and families of the Aboriginal Education Department.  It’s hosted by SD42 Aboriginal Education Slahal and Family Connections and takes place on Thursday November 3rd at Westview Secondary.  For more information, please see the flyer below

SANTA MALL

Santa Mall is an event where students can shop, by donation, for a gift for someone special.  More information is coming.  Santa Mall takes place at MRE on December 1 and 2, 2022.

Please consider helping – to make this a success, many ELVES are needed.

Santa’s Elves must be able to:

  • collect fun, unique and amazing donations for the students to purchase
  • ensure that donations are clean, appropriate, and safe
  • store donations until Santa Mall

If you have items for donation please bring them to the Santa Mall after school Wednesday, November 30th or 8am on Thursday, December 1st.

Hunt through your bins, boxes and closets and pass along all of your unwanted jewelry, candles (unburned), bath stuff (unopened), tableware, clothes (new w/tag), artwork, and holiday themed items etc. Wrapping paper, tissue, bags, boxes, bows and gift tags are always in short supply as well.

If you only have 1-2 small items, there will be a box available for donations across from the office.

Together let’s make this Santa Mall the best one yet! Questions? Please email Jeanie Harmon @ jeanandjoshharmon@shaw.ca
