VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION TEA
Whether it is driving, handing out lunches, or working with students in other ways, our volunteers make MRE an even better place! Students and staff invite anyone who has volunteered this year to a Volunteer Appreciation Tea on:
Tuesday, May 16th
From 1:00-2:20 pm
In the MRE gym
Please RSVP to mre_reception@sd42.ca by May 2nd, so we know how many wonderful volunteers to expect.
GARDEN PROJECT – HELP NEEDED!
Come be part of our School Garden Revival: May 6th at 9 am!
Volunteers are needed to clean out our school garden and shed. We will be dismantling the old beds to make room for new garden beds. Bring your muscles and tools to take apart the existing wood. We also need volunteers with trucks to drop off the green waste at the end of the day.
SCHOOL PARKING LOTS
Our school is a very busy place during morning drop off and after-school pick up times. Please remember to be cautious when walking from your car to the school – always use sidewalks and avoid walking through the parking lots as much as possible. If you are dropping off on River Road, please ensure you are not blocking the entrance or exit to the school parking lots or drive-thru area as traffic can back up along the road when entrances/exits are blocked.
Thank you for helping us keep our school a safe place!

FUTURE LOCKDOWN DRILL
On May 1st our school will be participating in a lockdown drill followed immediately by a fire drill.
A “lockdown” is a situation where all staff and students stay in a secure location with doors locked and windows closed. Lockdowns may be necessary where there is an internal or external threat to the safety of the school occupants. As with fire drills and other safety programs, the hope is to familiarize students and staff with a procedure that they will be able to follow quickly, effectively, and safely.
During the lockdown portion of the drill, students are to clear the halls and report to the nearest available classroom where they are to remain out of sight and stay as silent as possible.

CLASS PLACEMENTS FOR SEPTEMBER 2023
We will soon be beginning to create preliminary class lists for next year. Please be assured that staff devote considerable time, care, and attention to this process. This very complex and lengthy responsibility occurs over several weeks and continues into September when class placements are finalized.
Throughout the year, there have been many opportunities for parents and teachers to observe, discuss, and get to know the students. Staff work together to consider social emotional skills and relationships, as well as learning styles, strengths and needs as placements are made. Our goal is to create safe, engaging, and inclusive classrooms that balance these factors as equitably as possible.
If you feel there is further information to consider about your child, you may submit input to the principal by email (Barbara_mackinnon@sd42.ca) by May 31st, 2023. Please refrain from requesting specific teachers or peers by name.
