When Harry Hooge Elementary School was built, it was intended to symbolize the ideals of the man it was named after. Harry Hooge enriched the lives of everyone around him with his strong beliefs in family values and the fine arts.
He spent a total of thirty five years in Maple Ridge teaching and supervising at various schools. His last years were spent as director of special education and music programs in District 42. Harry Hooge also made a great contribution to the community by directing choirs.
The dedication that Mr. Hooge had to children and to the fine arts is reflected in the curriculum at the school.
Mr. Hooge passed away in early 1987.
