Dear Eric Langton families,
We are writing to provide an update on the Eric Langton Replacement Project. While we had hoped that the new building would be ready to receive students next month, delays in getting permanent power connected have pushed the certification of the building for student occupancy to the end of the school term. This means that students will move into the new building at the start of the new school year on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
Here is what to expect between now and September.
The move and the old building
Construction now is focused on the outside of the new building, including sidewalks, curbs, paving, and landscaping. Starting the week of June 15, we will begin moving resources and equipment from the old school to the new one. Once we have moved out, the old school facility will be prepared for demolition, beginning with the careful removal of asbestos-containing building materials, which is a standard step for buildings this age.
West side pathway and playground
The northwest corner of the site, including the pathway to 122nd Avenue, will remain closed until roughly the end of July. Some of the playground equipment in that area couldn’t be salvaged for reuse, so we’ve ordered replacements; we expect that playground to reopen by the end of August. In the meantime, the southwest playground remains open to the public.
Parking
We anticipate that the Edge Street parking lot will be closed from mid-July through to the end of November while the old building is demolished and a new lot and drop-off area are built. A temporary lot will be available off 227th Street during the closure.
Thank you for your patience as we get ready to welcome students into their new home in September. We will continue to share updates as they become available.
