School closure and reopening

October 26, 2026 By Irena Pochop

Update: Blue Mountain Elementary will reopen Wednesday, October 28, at the usual start time.

3:30 p.m., October 27, 2026

Dear Blue Mountain families,

I am writing to confirm that school will reopen tomorrow, Wednesday, October 28, at the usual start time.

To support the school’s reopening, the district has arranged temporary water and washroom facilities, including washroom trailers with 10 stalls, portable handwashing stations inside the school, and drinking water for students and staff.

These temporary arrangements will remain in place for the rest of the week while the school’s water system undergoes the necessary disinfection, flushing, and water-quality testing. We anticipate that regular water service will be restored by Monday, November 2.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we work to restore normal school operations. We look forward to welcoming students back tomorrow.

Dear Blue Mountain families,

Thank you for your patience and understanding this morning as we managed an unexpected school closure.

Our facilities department has determined that the loss of water service was caused by vandalism involving the school’s water meter and its connecting pipes sometime over the weekend. A contractor is now on site completing the necessary repairs.

While the repairs themselves are not expected to take long, the water system must undergo disinfection, flushing, and water-quality testing before regular water service can be restored. This process is expected to take approximately four days, during which time the building will remain without running water.

As a result, Blue Mountain Elementary will remain closed tomorrow, Tuesday, October 27, while the district makes arrangements for temporary water and washroom facilities. We are working toward reopening the school on Wednesday, October 28.

To support the school’s reopening, the following temporary measures are being arranged:

  • A washroom trailer with 10 stalls
  • Portable handwashing stations inside the school
  • Drinking water for students and staff

Please note that any fieldtrips planned for tomorrow will be rescheduled.

I recognize the challenges that these unexpected closures create for families, particularly when alternative childcare arrangements must be made on short notice. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we work to restore normal school operations.

Blue Mountain will be closed today, Monday, October 26, due to an issue affecting the school’s water supply and washroom facilities.

The facilities department has been notified and is on its way to the school to investigate and begin remediation. I will provide an update as more information becomes available.

I recognize that this unexpected closure creates challenges for families, particularly given the short notice, and sincerely apologize for the disruption to your day.

Thank you for your understanding,

Julie Clarke
Principal
