Dear Yennadon Families,
Schools were closed last Friday, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, to honour the children who never returned home and the survivors of the residential school system in Canada. Last week, our staff facilitated age-appropriate conversations about this day and participated in some school-wide activities. Please review the information below for some details about the upcoming week.
- Non-Instructional Day, Mon., Oct. 3 – A reminder there is no school for students on Monday, October 3rd due to a non-instructional day.
- Individual Student Photo Orders – Mountain West Studios program offers paper-free, online photo viewing and ordering that is fully customizable. On photo day, the students received a camera card with QR code access to the digital images on the mountainwest.ca website. Once the photos are uploaded, you will be able to go online to view and order your child’s photos. To avoid the ship-to-home cost, please order before October 20th and photos will be shipped to the school for distribution. If your child is absent on photo day, then Photo Retakes are in the morning on Wednesday, October 19th.
- Terry Fox Run – Thank you for supporting our Terry Fox event last week. Pledge sheets have been sent home with students. Tax receipts for donations of $20 or more will be issued from the Terry Fox Foundation. We are encouraging Yennadon students to bring in a Toonie for Terry as a donation towards cancer research. Cash donations at the school and online donations will be accepted until October 7th. Yennadon Donation Link: https://schools.terryfox.ca/YennadonElementary
- World Teachers’ Day, Wed., Oct. 5 – On World Teachers’ Day, we celebrate the critical role of teachers and paraprofessionals in transforming learners’ potential by ensuring they have the tools they need to take responsibility for themselves, for others, and for the planet. The world recognizes teachers as knowledge producers and reflective practitioners. A huge thank you to our amazing Yennadon staff!
- October School Assembly, Wed., Oct. 5 – We are excited to once again gather in person for assemblies. Each month our school has an assembly usually on the first Wednesday at 9:00 am. Since our school enrolment is almost 700 students, we are now holding in person monthly assemblies for half of the student population. In other words, each month we will assemble with either primary students or intermediate students. Our full schoolwide assemblies will continue to be virtual. Our next school assembly is this Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. in the gym for PRIMARY students.
- Thanksgiving Pie Fundraiser Delivery, Wed., Oct. 5 – The Grade 6/7s appreciate your support with this camp fundraiser. Pies will be delivered to students at school this Wednesday.
- Pizza Hot Lunch, Fri., Oct. 7 – Thank you to our PAC for organizing and offering hot lunches. A reminder that hot lunch meals must be pre-ordered online at Munch-a-Lunch.
- Student Verification Forms – It is essential that we have accurate contact information on file at all times. Please double check your information and have your child return the pink form to their teacher by this Friday. It is imperative the school receives this form back for every student as soon as possible. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
- Thanksgiving Day, Mon., Oct. 10 – A reminder there is no school on Mon., Oct. 10th due to Thanksgiving national holiday.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lawrance
