October 24th Update to Families

October 23, 2022 By Lisa Lawrance

Dear Yennadon Families,

We have had another busy week at Yennadon!  Many thanks to the PAC for organizing our first Halloween Family Dance which was a huge spooktacular success.  Please review the information below for some details about the upcoming week.

  1. Yennadon Food Bank Drive, Oct. 24 – Nov. 1 – Our Leadership Team is coordinating, promoting, and requesting donations of non-perishable food items to help people in our community and the Friends in Need Food Bank. Yennadon has been an important supporter of our food bank every year for the past 12 years.  Last year we contributed 2100 lbs of food items. Please help us beat that goal this year!  The Friends in Need Food Bank continues to need all items and is thrilled to accept anything we have to offer, but they have put in a special request for the following items:  canned vegetables, canned fruit, lunch-sized juice boxes, and small canned fruit snack packs.
  2. Taco Del Mar Hot Lunch, Mon., Oct. 24 – Thank you to our PAC for organizing and offering hot lunches.
  3. Intermediate District Cross Country (Alouette Lake Beach), Tues., Oct. 25 – In order to help alleviate some of the traffic and congestion issues, we encourage families and students to arrive 30 minutes prior toyour   For example, grade 5s need not be at Alouette Lake until 3:40pm and grade 6s can arrive just after 4:00pm as they have the last races of the day.  Here is an approximate race schedule for the intermediate races:

3:32 (Grade 7 boys)

3:44 (Grade 4 girls)

3:56 (Grade 4 boys)

4:08 (Grade 5 girls)

4:20 (Grade 5 boys)

4:32 (Grade 6 girls)

4:44 (Grade 6 boys)

*These times are approximate, please check in at our school’s tent at least 15 minutes before your race.

  1. Primary District Cross Country (Albion Sports Complex), Wed., Oct. 26 – In order to help alleviate some of the traffic and congestion issues, we encourage families and students to arrive 30 minutes prior toyour   For example, grade 3s need not arrive until 3:30pm as they have the last races of the day.  Here is an approximate race schedule for the primary races:

  2. Deadline to Order Subway Hot Lunch in November, Fri., Oct. 28 – A reminder that hot lunch meals must be pre-ordered online at Munch-a-Lunch.
  3. Individual Photo Orders due Mon., Oct. 31 – A reminder, to avoid the ship-to-home cost, please order your child’s photo package before October 31st and photos will be shipped to the school for distribution. To save $5 off shipping, enter the following coupon code at checkout: YENNADONFREESHIPPING
  4. Meridian Farm Market Gift Card Fundraiser – Grade 6/7 students are selling Meridian Farm Market Gift Cards as a fundraiser for camp. Meridian generously gives us 30% of the cost of the card towards our fundraiser.  Cards come in denominations of $10, $25, $50, $75, or $100.  Cards will arrive at the school in early November, and we will notify you through the portal when they are being sent home with students.  See the portal message under Forms to place your order.
  5. Halloween Costumes at School – Each year we get questions about what is allowed and not allowed at school. At Yennadon, we are requesting that students do not bring any costume masks, costume accessories (for example wands, weapons, light sabers), or homemade food items (to share) to school.  Please also read the letter to parents from our Superintendent about Halloween costumes and a safe and inclusive Halloween for more information.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lawrance
