May 29th Update to Families

Dear Yennadon Families,

Where did May go?  We have been very busy this month.  Our students and staff have been hard at work with their lessons.  They’ve also been having a lot of fun with activities and field trips throughout the month.  Please review the information below for some details about the upcoming week. 

1. Bike/Walk/Wheel to School Week, May 29^th to June 2^nd – In order to encourage active school transportation, the PAC is offering students individual movie pass prizes, a class pizza party prize, and a grand prize of three season’s passes to WildPlay for three lucky participants. Student participation will be tracked by classroom teachers daily.  Check out this video link https://youtu.be/yipb1JZ9ugk for more details. 
2. SPCA Coin Drive Fundraiser, May 29^th to June 2^nd – Last week, the news included an SPCA appeal. They are housing animals displaced by wildfires and need food to help all of these pets.  Next week, Yennadon leadership is holding a coin drive to donate money to the SPCA so they can get the specific food they need for the pets they have in care.  Each day will be a different coin type, increasing as the week progresses.  Monday – 5¢ nickels, Tuesday – 10¢ dimes, Wednesday – 25¢ quarters, Thursday – $1.00 loonies, and Friday – $2.00 toonies.  Please give what you are able and help us raise some money for the furry family members who truly cannot help themselves.
3. Primary District Cross Country RESCHEDULED (Albion Fairgrounds), Tues., May 30 – The new location is the Albion Fairgrounds. Parking for east zone schools, which is Yennadon, is on the Sports Complex lot so we will have to walk a little bit further than usual.  The run will start and finish near the Mainstage.  We will also put up our school tent in this area.  The race is approximately 1km and there will be spotters and arrows marking the course.  Parents are responsible for transporting their own children to and from the race.  The race will begin at approximately 3:15pm.  Please be aware that traffic will be extremely congested so please give yourself extra time.  Permission forms initially completed will be honoured for this new date.
4. Hot Dog/TCBY Hot Lunch, Wed., May 31 – Thank you to our PAC for organizing and offering hot lunches.
5. Roundabout Closed for Track & Field Rotations, Wed., May 31 from 1:00 – 2:00pm.
6. Deadline to Order Pizza Hot Lunch (for June 9^th), Wed., May 31 – A reminder that hot lunch meals must be pre-ordered online at Munch-a-Lunch.
7. Creative Pack Student Supply Kits are available on the parent portal and the school website. All orders are completed online at https://creativepacks.ca/collections/packs/yennadon-elementary-school+ .  Packs ordered by July 3^rd receive free shipping to the school and will be distributed when we return to school in September.  Packs ordered after July 3^rd will include a shipping fee and will be shipped to your home.
