Staff were spoiled by our PAC with a delicious lunch! Thank you for going the extra mile to make our staff feel appreciated. We honoured our volunteers with a special volunteer event. We could not do everything we do for our students without you! Many classes engaged with some amazing outdoor education opportunities at Belcarra Park and Whonnock Lake. Several classes began their \u201c10 Days of Fun\u201d countdown to the end of the school year!<\/p>\n

We are delighted to announce that the spring group photos for our school have been uploaded online and are ready for viewing and ordering. Every student will be receiving 1 free 5×7 class photo, anything you order will be an additional copy.\u00a0 You can access the photos by visiting the following link\u00a0photoexpressions.ca\/orders<\/a>\u00a0and entering our school’s unique online code\u00a0MRELCG25<\/strong>\u00a0to gain access to the photo gallery.<\/p>\n

To ensure prompt delivery, we kindly request that all orders be placed by\u00a0Wednesday,\u00a0June 15th.<\/strong>\u00a0Orders placed after this date will require shipping. We are offering two print sizes: 5×7 (priced at $6) and 8×10 (priced at $10).<\/p>\n

It’s worth mentioning that\u00a0each child has been provided one free 5×7 copy of their class photo.<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0However, if you wish to order additional copies, this is the perfect opportunity to do so.<\/p>\n

Low-Cost Activities at Pitt Meadows Family Recreation Centre:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Looking for an indoor activity? PMFRC offers low-cost\u00a0Parent & Tot Mini Gym<\/a>\u00a0in the gymnasium on Mondays and Wednesdays (10:05-11:45 a.m.) and Saturdays (9-11 a.m.) for only $1 per child.<\/p>\n

Value Times at the Fitness Centre<\/strong><\/p>\n

Work out at the fitness centre during our value times. It\u2019s only $1 for youth (13-18Y) and seniors (60Y+) and $2 for adults (19-59Y). Value times are: Tuesday 10-11:30 a.m., Wednesday 8-9 p.m., Thursday 6-7 a.m. and Saturday from 3-6 p.m.<\/p>\n

FREE Family Lounge Drop-In Program \u2013 Sundays from 3-7 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Drop by the Constable Rick O\u2019Brien Youth Lounge with your family! The Youth Lounge will open Sundays, from 3-7 p.m. for a time of unstructured activities for you and your children. Enjoy a variety of activities including billiards, ping pong, video games, retro arcade and board games. There is also a concession with food and drinks.<\/p>\n

Our Recreation team will be on hand to supervise, but please remember that this is a parent-led program. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Older siblings (11Y+) are also welcome, but must be accompanied by a parent\/guardian.<\/p>\n

Experience Art & Culture at the Pitt Meadows Art Gallery<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Pitt Meadows Art Gallery (PMAG) is located on the main floor of the South Bonson Community Centre in Pitt Meadows. PMAG is committed to supporting local and regional artists and artisans and will showcase six exhibitions per year at the main gallery and four exhibitions per year at the pop-up gallery. Admission to the gallery is free and all work is available for sale.<\/p>\n

The Pop-Up PMAG can be found in the lobby at City Hall. This satellite gallery showcases smaller collections of work from Lower Mainland artists.<\/p>\n

Keeping kids healthy and safe this summer \u2013 tips for parents <\/strong><\/p>\n

As summer approaches, excitement levels rise in anticipation for outdoor adventures, sports and family vacations. Summer is a time for fun and relaxation, but it\u2019s also a time to prioritize health and well-being. Below are some tips to help your kids stay active, healthy and safe during the summer months.<\/p>\n

Sun protection <\/strong><\/p>\n

Help avoid sunburns by applying a sunscreen lotion with Sun Protection Factor (SPF) 30 or more to your children (and yourself) at least 20 minutes before heading outside. Seek shade and stay out of the hot sun between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Look for places with lots of shade, such as parks with big trees. Take an umbrella or tent to the beach and cover up with a wide brimmed hat, long sleeves and lose-fitting long pants.<\/p>\n

Watch the media for heat waves and\/or heat warning and tell your children to drink plenty of water and find cool air-conditioned spaces on those days. If there is no source of cool air, do not use fans as the main way of cooling off as they don\u2019t cool down your children\u2019s body temperature. Make sure you and your family know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, so you can monitor each other, both indoor and outdoors on hot days. Breathe easier <\/strong><\/p>\n

Summer can bring with it extreme heat and smoke from wildfires. Know how to protect yourself and your loved ones from heat illnesses using our tips on keeping cool. Reducing your exposure to wildfire smoke is the best way to protect your health. Learn how to be ready for smoke and know about the air quality and health risks in your community to www.fraserhealth.ca\/wildfiresmoke<\/a><\/p>\n

Hydration <\/strong><\/p>\n

Encourage your children to drink water regularly, before they become thirsty. Instill the habit of always carrying a water bottle with them wherever they go.<\/p>\n

Physical activity <\/strong><\/p>\n

Parents who join in on soccer games, splash in the pool or set out on hikes with their children on summer vacation \u2013 and all year long \u2013 not only get fit themselves but provide healthy role models for the next generation. Healthy, active outdoor play is one of the best ways to improve both adults\u2019 and children\u2019s overall physical and mental health.<\/p>\n

Enjoy summer produce <\/strong><\/p>\n

Summer is here, which means fresh fruits and vegetables are in season. This makes it an ideal time to eat some delicious locally grown foods. Local farmers\u2019 markets<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0u-pick farms<\/a>\u00a0are a fun way to enjoy farm-fresh fruits and veggies while getting outside and supporting local farmers.<\/p>\n

BC Lions Halftime Grad Walk<\/strong><\/p>\n

On\u00a0Saturday June 21, at 4pm, BC Lions is inviting\u00a0all graduating students (Grade 7 and Grade 12) to a Halftime Grad Walk on the field with an entire stadium cheering them on\u00a0as part of the festivities for our Summer Camp themed game against the\u00a0Winnipeg Blue Bombers.<\/p>\n

This is a\u00a0memorable and unique way for students to celebrate their accomplishments at the end of the school year\u00a0with friends and loved ones. Few people can say that they have walked on the field.<\/p>\n

Graduates will get complimentary tickets. Parents and additional family members are also invited with tickets at just $24 for adults and $19 for Youth (non-graduates, 17 & younger).<\/p>\n

Foundry News<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Foundry provides\u00a0mental health care, substance use services, physical and sexual health care, youth, and family peer supports, and social services\u00a0to youth aged 12-24 years of age. It provides drop-in counselling as well as various social events that your child can attend. This is a terrific way to build positive connections with others within the Maple Ridge community.<\/p>\n
