Such incidents can range from fires, natural disasters, medical emergencies to security threats. In such scenarios, there’s very little time to plan a response or to learn the necessary steps to ensure safety. By practicing emergency procedures regularly, members of our schools can better understand what they need to do when a real crisis strikes. This prepares everyone to respond effectively and promptly, reducing the potential for confusion and panic.

WHAT WILL TAKE PLACE:

Following an earthquake drill, we will begin a controlled student release. Parents/guardians or the adult approved as your alternate for pick-up (as listed on the Student Emergency Release Form submitted to the school earlier this year) are asked to come to the school muster station on the back field at 1:30 pm to pick up your child/children.

Please wait at the muster station area until the drill is complete, and staff give the signal that you can begin lining up at your child’s division number.

Students will bring their belongings with them as all other entrance doors will be locked, and there will be no access to the rest of the school.

PLEASE NOTE:

If you are not available to come to the school to pick up your child/children, you are to contact one of the designated alternates that you have listed on your Student Emergency Release Form (MUST be 19+ years of age) to come pick up your child.

Bring photo ID with you – valid BC Driver’s License or passport.

Photo ID will be required as proof of identification for ALL adults. The staff member releasing your child may not be your child’s classroom teacher. Please do not be offended by this – it is just part of practicing the appropriate process. We can ONLY release children into the care of their own parent/guardian OR adult listed on the Emergency Student Release Form, confirmed with photo ID.

If you need to update the designated adults on your Emergency Release Form, please email mre_reception@sd42.ca or call the office to request that we delete the form so you can re-submit it. Please provide updates by Friday, May 23rd.

If you have not already submitted the Student Emergency Release forms they can be found on the parent portal under consent forms.

Your designated alternates for pick-up should be adults who would be able to reach the school on foot because in a real emergency access by vehicle may not be possible.

********************************************************

PLEASE exercise calm and patience during this process. Students will be released through a formal process. Expect wait time!

Please respect the importance of controlling the release of students. Student Safety is the priority.

PLEASE take children immediately home with you, as this would be what you would do in a real emergency student release situation. Students/Adults will not be allowed back into the school.

If you have any questions about this exercise or our Emergency Preparedness Program, please contact the principal Mme Chelsea Lendvoy (chelsea_lendvoy@sd42.ca) or 604-467-5551.

INDIGENOUS GAMES

On Tuesday, MRE will be participating in an Indigenous Games Day featuring six Indigenous games: Lacrosse, Waltes, One Foot High Kick, Bone Game, Line Tag, and Tatanka Tatanka.
