We invite family members and caregivers to sign up as community readers. Each Friday between 8:30 am and 9:00 am the Community Readers, Mme Lendvoy and Mme Perry will read with primary students in the library. Our Support Teachers and Class Teachers will select the students and the reading materials.<\/p>\n<p>We welcome volunteers who would like to support reading in both French or English. <strong>If you would like to be a community reader please email chelsea_lendvoy@sd42.ca or rachael_perry@sd42.ca. We will send a Volunteer Form home with your student for you to complete and return.<\/strong> Please indicate to us in your email if you already have a completed Volunteer Form on file. You do not need to commit for the entire school year. Each year Maple Ridge Elementary Staff, PAC and Community assist in supporting families during this time of giving. This year we have decided to try something a little different.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The giving tree model is to ensure that all children and youth experience the magic this time of year.\u00a0 Each ornament has information with a child\u2019s needs and wishes for this season of celebration. Gifts, hygiene and household essentials, and a holiday meal are just some of the ways that The Giving Tree can alleviate the financial stress of the season, allowing families to enjoy time together making memories.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This would be an amazing opportunity to have your children involved in the process of giving.\u00a0 If you would like to support a child during the holiday season, please take an ornament off the tree, located at the entrance of the school.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Your donations will greatly impact and bring smiles to the student and their family. Thank you to all of our volunteer readers, this is a special opportunity for our students and we appreciate your time!<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last week the whole school participated in our first Reading Blast of the year. Students were excited to drop what they were doing, pick up a book, and read!<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have launched our year long reading challenge. \u00a0We are hoping to get students excited about reading by sharing the books they are enjoying in a school-wide display!<\/p>\n<p>Each class will receive a book template, to fill in about books they have read and enjoyed. \u00a0These will be displayed in all our hallways, with classes in each hallway working together to create a &#8220;pathway&#8221; of books.<\/p>\n<p>By June, we hope to have a visual representation of all the reading students have done! \u00a0Thank you in advance for participating in\u00a0Birds of a Feather\u2026 Read Together!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ERASE WEBSITE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The ERASE (Expect Respect and a Safe Education) program is an initiative by the BC Ministry of Education designed to help make schools safer and more supportive for students. It gives students, parents, and teachers resources to address issues like bullying, discrimination, mental health, and substance use. Through ERASE, students can anonymously report concerns if they see or experience something unsafe or harmful. This reporting tool connects directly with school staff to ensure quick support and resolution. There are grants available for our French students, but we need a parent volunteer to help us access these resources.
