Students and staff enjoyed a positive and productive first full week with their new classes. Community building activities took place throughout the school including games and art. Much laughter could be heard coming from various classrooms!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If your student needs more time to say goodbye in the morning, or you need to exit your vehicle for any reason, utilize \u201cneighbourhood parking\u201d option. If you are still needing to purchase your student\u2019s school supplies, there are various options:\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kindergarten – Grade 3<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Supplies are bulk-ordered by the classroom teacher. There is a flat fee which covers all art and school supplies for the year. This includes the cost of a planner (agenda):\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Students have the option to pre-order from Creative Packs or purchase their own supplies. If you have not yet purchased your grade 4-7 child\u2019s school supplies, you may still order directly from Creative Packs at: <\/span>www.creativepacks.ca,<\/span><\/a> but there will be a late fee<\/span>. In today\u2019s classrooms, the focus has shifted away from memorizing facts and learning content knowledge. Instead, there is an increased emphasis on the development of skills and understanding concepts and processes, in addition to developing the attitudes and mindset of a lifelong learner. With rapid changes in science and technology, it is essential students learn how to access information, evaluate ideas, make judgments, collaborate with others, and transfer knowledge in novel ways.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Teachers of combined classes create learning engagements that meet the needs of <\/span>all learners<\/span><\/b>, often incorporating learning outcomes from both grades into holistic, theme-based units of study. The Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework helps teachers design curriculum to meet individual student needs while recognizing student strengths. Using this framework helps all teachers, whether straight grade or combined, succeed in creating an inclusive and equitable learning environment.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How can families support their children?\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Regardless of their child\u2019s class placement, families are encouraged to stay positive and interested in their child\u2019s learning. Families can demonstrate support by encouraging open-mindedness, risk-taking, and principled learning. Families are also encouraged to monitor schoolwork and to communicate openly with the teacher around their child\u2019s strengths, stretches, and learning goals.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

HEALTH AWARENESS<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We are continuing to practice Health Awareness this year for everyone entering our school \u2013 this includes staff, students, and visitors. Health awareness includes checking regularly for any symptoms of illness (including, but not limited to,\u202f<\/span>COVID-19 symptoms<\/span><\/a>) and staying home when sick.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>The Foundry provides\u202fmental health care, substance use services, physical and sexual health care, youth, and family peer supports, and social services\u202fto youth aged 12-24 years of age. It provides drop-in counselling as well as various social events that your child can attend.
