STUDENT LED CONFERENCES <\/strong><\/p>\n

Remember to sign up for a student-led conference with your child and their teacher.\u00a0 Conferences are an opportunity to celebrate your child\u2019s learning and check in on the goals set after Term One.<\/p>\n

A reminder that due to the conference schedule, the last day for students before spring break will be Thursday, March 9th<\/sup> \u2013 Early dismissal at 11:30.<\/p>\n

SPRING BREAK READING CHALLENGE<\/strong><\/p>\n

All students are invited to participate in the spring break reading challenge! See the attached intermediate and the primary challenges.\u00a0 Students can return their completed challenge form to the office by Friday March 31st<\/sup> to receive a prize.<\/p>\n

HEALTH AWARENESS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reminder: Health Awareness<\/strong> is for everyone entering our school \u2013 this includes staff, students, and visitors. Health awareness includes checking regularly for any symptoms of illness (including, but not limited to,\u00a0COVID-19 symptoms<\/a>) and staying home if ill.<\/p>\n

FRENCH CULTURAL ACTIVITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maple Ridge Elementary is excited to welcome two French cultural events next week.\u00a0 As a French Immersion school, it is important to us to learn about French culture from all over the world.\u00a0 Both French Immersion and English students will participate in these activities.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The first presentation is by a group called V\u2019ni Dansi. V\u2019ni Dansi means \u201ccome and dance\u201d in Michif, a language spoken by some M\u00e9tis peoples. The group will perform joyful traditional Metis songs and dances.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The second presentation will be from \u201cThe Maple Man\u201d who will teach students about the history of maple syrup harvesting.\u00a0 Students will have the opportunity to taste a \u201ctire de sucre\u201d \u2013 a Quebecois winter tradition that involves pouring hot maple syrup over snow (ice) and rolling it into a candy to eat!<\/p>\n

PROPOSED CALENDAR<\/strong><\/p>\n

The proposed district school calendars for\u00a02023\/24, 2024\/25<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a02025\/26<\/strong><\/p>\n

(Regular, Distributed Learning, and Kanaka Creek Elementary)\u00a0were presented to the Board of Education at the February 15, 2023, public meeting and are now out for public consultation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

All feedback will be reviewed by senior staff for possible revisions once public consultation concludes. The proposed calendars will then be submitted to the Board of Education for approval at the\u00a0April 12, 2023<\/strong>,\u00a0public\u00a0board meeting.<\/p>\n
