This monthly newsletter complements the weekly Friday Blasts that are posted on the Parent Portal.\u00a0 Both the Friday Blasts and the Newsletters can be found on the MRE Website at: https:\/\/elementary.sd42.ca\/mapleridge\/<\/a>.\u00a0 We also have a school-based Facebook page called Maple Ridge Elementary SD 42.\u00a0 Individual teachers use a variety of methods for their class level communications.<\/p>\n

MRE Newsletter #4\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 DEC. 1, 2022<\/p>\n

We are rapidly heading toward one of the most exciting times of the year.\u00a0 The snow only adds to the thrill!\u00a0 Thank you for keeping your children well-supplied with cold\/rain weather gear and spare clothes.<\/p>\n

We\u2019d like to like to acknowledge and thank students and family members who participated in the Remembrance Day assembly last month. This was the first time in three years that we could meet in person to observe this memorial day.<\/p>\n

Along with staff and students, the PAC is finding creative ways to spread holiday cheer and camaraderie.\u00a0 You will have already been reading about \u201cLug-a-Mug\u201d and \u201cSanta Mall\u201d in the Friday Blasts.<\/p>\n

Look out for the \u201cHoliday Havoc\u201d Spirit Day on Dec. 13th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Students are encouraged to come in their most \u201cChristmassy\u201d or Holiday-themed get-ups.<\/p>\n

We are thrilled to bring back the MRE Celebrates Concert on Dec. 14th\u00a0 at 9:00 a.m., and on Dec. \u00a015th at 12:45 p.m.\u00a0 Classes are busy making decorations and rehearsing songs and dances \u2013 you can feel the excitement in the air.<\/p>\n

We need to stay within fire occupancy code limits in the gym, so we ask that you choose only one performance to attend.\u00a0 A food bank donation as \u201cadmission\u201d will be greatly appreciated.<\/p>\n

A huge thank you goes to our PAC for their leadership and generosity in their organization of the Book Fair, Hamper Donations, Santa Mall, hot lunches, and seasonal treats for the students. These are only some of the things that the PAC is doing in their continuous efforts to support MRE\u2019s students and staff.<\/p>\n

Did you know that all MRE parents are automatically members of the PAC?\u00a0 If you would like to learn about how to become more involved, please check the PAC section further on in this newsletter.\u00a0 Parental involvement is important to the success of any school.<\/p>\n

Student Inclusive Reporting Conferences – Dec. 8 and 9<\/p>\n

MRE follows the student inclusive conferencing model for reporting where the classroom teacher, the parent(s), and the child have a meaningful discussion about the child\u2019s learning. If you have not had a chance to visit the district website to learn about our student inclusive reporting, please do so at http:\/\/www.sd42.ca\/ and click the PARENTS tab and then Reporting and Assessment. Here you will find Q & A, videos, report\/conference templates, and other information.<\/p>\n

Our school district uses the new provincial proficiency scale.\u00a0 We know learning occurs on a continuum of development and takes patience and time.\u00a0 Please visit the link below that explains this further:<\/p>\n

To provide time for conferences, students have an early dismissal at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 8 and they do not attend school on Dec. 9.<\/p>\n

Intermediate students who were part of the MRE Book Fest Program had the chance to compete against Harry Hooge, at the \u201cKahoot virtual wrap-up\u201d this week. Thanks to all the students who participated and read so many great books!<\/p>\n

As the holidays approach, it\u00a0would be\u00a0greatly appreciated\u00a0if\u00a0families could\u00a0take an extra\u00a0look\u00a0around the house for overdue library books and return them as soon as possible. Keep reading over the break!<\/p>\n

Westcoast Recess and Lunch \u2013 Dress for The Weather<\/p>\n

A reminder to parents and guardians that MRE students play outside when it is cold, rainy or even snowy.\u00a0 Only on rare occasions will we keep students inside.\u00a0 We ask that you send your child to school dressed for the weather (boots, coats, mitts, umbrella \u2026).\u00a0 If your child tends to get wet playing on the slides or in the field, please send an extra set of clothing. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lost and Found<\/p>\n

There are many coats, sweaters and water bottles in the Lost and Found!<\/p>\n

You can stop by anytime to have a look.<\/p>\n

Unclaimed items will be donated to local charities on Dec. 16th.\u00a0\u00a0 Please consider labeling items with your child\u2019s name so they can be easily returned.\u00a0 Thank you for your assistance.<\/p>\n

Winter Break<\/p>\n

The last day of school before winter break will be Friday, December 16, with dismissal at 2:25 p.m.\u00a0 School will reopen on Tuesday, January 3 at 8:25 a.m.<\/p>\n
