style=\"color: #000000;\">Thank you for visiting our Primary Science Fair last Thursday!\u00a0 What a fabulous turnout of parents, relatives, and friends to view the students\u2019 work.\u00a0 They were all very proud of their accomplishments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">February 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0marked the start of Black History Month.\u00a0 Every February, people across Canada participate in Black History Month events and festivities that honour the legacy of Black people in Canada and their communities.\u00a0 To honour Black History Month at Laity View, staff are utilizing a variety of resources in their classrooms to teach about Black stories, Black art, and Black people as well as equality, empathy, and anti-racism.\u00a0 Ask your children to tell you about one of the prominent Black Canadians read over the announcements each week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Please review close schools due to weather conditions is ultimately the responsibility of the Superintendent, who must balance the safety of students, staff, and parents with the need to provide learning.\u00a0 The decision is not taken lightly and is the result of a carefully thought-out process that is reviewed after each experience and refined if necessary.\u00a0\u00a0The decision to close schools is made dressed appropriately to go outside<\/strong>.\u00a0 At recess and lunch, we always go outside unless advised otherwise by the district.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Grade 8 Registration<\/strong> \u2013 All Grade 8 registration for the 2025-26 school year will be done <u>online through the Parent Portal<\/u>.\u00a0 <strong>The Grade 8 Transfer Period will open at 12:00 noon February 11<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong>.\u00a0 Deadline for completing a request for the Grade 8 Transfer Period is February 25<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Families with children currently enrolled in a Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows School District elementary school should <strong>submit an <em>Existing Student Transfer Request<\/em><\/strong> in the Grade 8
