There are not a lot of schoolwide activities occurring this week, so below are also some important upcoming events for next<\/u> week.\u00a0 Be sure to read communication from your children\u2019s teachers for important and relevant information.\u00a0 Please review the information below for some details about the upcoming weeks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jan. 14 \u2013 Mar. 14<\/strong>:\u00a0 Grade 5 Middle Years Development Instrument Timeframe<\/span><\/p>\n

Mon., Jan. 20<\/strong>:\u00a0 Kindergarten Choice Registration last day<\/strong> (French Immersion, Montessori)<\/span><\/p>\n

Mon., Jan. 27<\/strong>:\u00a0 7:00 pm Learning Services Gr. 7 to Gr. 8 Virtual Parent Information Session (pre-registration required)<\/span><\/p>\n

Tues., Jan. 28:\u00a0 <\/strong>District Non-Instructional Day \u2013 No School for Students<\/span><\/p>\n

Thurs., Jan. 30<\/strong>:\u00a0 7:00 pm DPAC Gr. 7 to Gr. 8 Virtual Parent Information Session (pre-registration required)<\/span><\/p>\n

Primary Science Fair<\/strong> \u2013 Parents are invited to attend our Primary Science Fair Open House and visit classes on Thursday, January 30th<\/sup> from 1:30 \u2013 2:00 p.m.<\/strong>\u00a0 All primary and Gr. 3\/4 classes are participating (except Division 12).\u00a0 Please note that students must remain in their class with their projects during this time.\u00a0 Students will not be allowed to visit other classes with their parents.\u00a0 We hope to see you there!<\/span><\/p>\n

Learning Services Gr. 7 to 8 Transition Virtual Parent Information Session, Mon., Jan 27th<\/sup> at 7:00 pm<\/strong>\u2013 Are you the parent of a Gr. 7 child with diverse needs starting high school next year?\u00a0 If your Gr. 7 child has an individualized education plan (IEP) and ministry designation, then you are invited to register for an online information session on Mon., Jan. 27th<\/sup> at 7pm.\u00a0 Pre-registration is required at this<\/span> LINK<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 In this session you will learn about the registration process, available support structures in high school, and how to support a successful transition to high school.<\/span><\/p>\n

District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) Grade 7 to 8 Transition Online Information Session, Thurs., Jan. 30th<\/sup> at 7:00 pm<\/strong> \u2013 This online session will take place on Zoom and will be broadcast live on the<\/span>\u00a0SD42 DPAC YouTube channel<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 Zoom participants MUST<\/span>\u00a0register in advance<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0as there is a limit of 90 participants.\u00a0 Topics will include portal registration updates, choice registrations, academy programs, information about the Garibaldi Secondary International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program, and more.<\/span><\/p>\n

Middle Year Development Instrument, Grade 5<\/strong> \u2013 The district has partnered with the Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP) at UBC to measure and promote children\u2019s social and emotional development, health, well-being, and assets through the Middle Year Development Instrument (MDI). The MDI is a self-report questionnaire that asks children in middle childhood about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in school, at home, and in the community. The survey questions align with the BC Ministry of Education\u2019s K-12 curriculum, which includes a focus on promoting children\u2019s personal and social competencies.\u00a0 Grade 5 students are invited to complete the MDI during class time with their teachers between January 14th<\/sup> and March 14th<\/sup>.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
