{"id":2385,"date":"2024-09-29T09:57:47","date_gmt":"2024-09-29T16:57:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/elementary.sd42.ca\/laityview\/?p=2385"},"modified":"2024-09-29T10:04:30","modified_gmt":"2024-09-29T17:04:30","slug":"september-30th-update-to-families","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elementary.sd42.ca\/laityview\/september-30th-update-to-families\/","title":{"rendered":"September 30th Update to Families"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Dear Laity View Families,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A reminder that schools are closed on Monday for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to honour the children who never returned home and the survivors of the residential school system in Canada.\u00a0 Last week, our staff facilitated age-appropriate conversations about this day and participated in some school-wide activities, such as our assembly last Friday.\u00a0 In addition, Tuesday is a non-instructional day, so there is no school for students.\u00a0 Please review the information below for some details about the upcoming week.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Mon., Sept. 30:\u00a0 N<\/strong><strong>ational Day for Truth and Reconciliation \u2013 <\/strong><strong>Schools are closed on Monday<\/strong>.\u00a0 The Government of Canada designated September 30<sup>th<\/sup> a statutory holiday named National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in recognition of the lasting harm residential schools have had on Indigenous communities. We ask students, staff, and families to use this opportunity to reflect on the profound injustice of residential schools and ensure that the intergenerational trauma suffered by First Nations, M\u00e9tis, and Inuit families is not forgotten.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Tues., Oct. 1:\u00a0 District<\/strong><strong> School Growth Planning Day \u2013 NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Wed., Oct. 2<\/strong>:\u00a0 10:20 \u2013 10:35 am Intermediate Cross Country Training (Volker Park)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Thurs., Oct. 3<\/strong>:\u00a0 10:20 \u2013 10:35 am Primary Cross Country Training (Volker Park)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Fri., Oct. 4<\/strong>:\u00a0 12:25 pm PAC Hot Lunch \u2013 Subway<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Sat., Oct. 5:\u00a0 World Teachers\u2019 Day <\/strong>\u2013 On World Teachers\u2019 Day, we celebrate the critical role of teachers and paraprofessionals in transforming learners\u2019 potential by ensuring they have the tools they need to take responsibility for themselves, for others, and for the planet.\u00a0 The world recognizes teachers as knowledge producers and reflective practitioners.\u00a0 A huge thank you to our amazing Laity View staff!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Photo Expression Orders<\/strong>:\u00a0 Photo orders placed by October 13<sup>th<\/sup> will be delivered to the school with no shipping charge.\u00a0 Orders placed after October 13<sup>th<\/sup> will be delivered with the retake photo orders, also with no shipping charge.\u00a0 <strong>Photo retakes are scheduled for October 23<sup>rd<\/sup><\/strong>.\u00a0 After the last orders are delivered to our school, then any further photo orders are subject to shipping charges and are delivered to parents\u2019 homes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Personal Digital Devices<\/strong>:\u00a0 At Laity View Elementary, students are discouraged from bringing personal digital devices to school.\u00a0 This is because when students need to use technology as part of their learning, they will usually use the devices provided by the school.\u00a0 Our expectation is that <strong>cell phones are not used or turned on during the school day from 8:30 am to 2:20 pm<\/strong>.\u00a0 After school students should use their cell phones outside of the building.\u00a0 However, a staff member may grant a student permission to use a cell phone or other personal digital device for educational purposes during class time for purposes of inclusion and accessibility (e.g., digital literacy, communication, medical and health needs, and as defined within an individual education plan).\u00a0 Students who bring devices to school do so at their own risk.\u00a0 Parents wishing to contact their children during the school day can do so by calling our school phone at\u00a0(604) 463-7108.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Student Verification Forms<\/strong>:\u00a0 Please check, sign, and date these important forms and have your childreturn the form to their teacher.\u00a0 It is imperative the school receives this form back for every student assoon as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Parent Portal Consent Forms<\/strong> \u2013 Please ensure that you complete the\u00a02024\/2025 SD42 Consent Forms on the portal.\u00a0 Please read through each form in order to give permission or not provide permission
