February 1st<\/sup>\u00a0marked the start of Black History Month.\u00a0 Every February, people across Canada participate in Black History Month events and festivities that honour the legacy of Black people in Canada and their communities.\u00a0 To honour Black History Month at Laity View, staff are utilizing a variety of resources in their classrooms to teach about Black stories, Black art, and Black people as well as equality, empathy, and anti-racism.\u00a0 Ask your children to tell you about one of the prominent Black Canadians read over the announcements each week.\u00a0 Please review the information below for some details about the upcoming week.<\/p>\n Jan. 31 \u2013 Feb. 6<\/strong>:\u00a0 Kindergarten General Registration<\/p>\n Jan. 31 \u2013 Feb. 7<\/strong>:\u00a0 Quebec Exchange Trip (for those students registered)<\/p>\n Mon., Feb. 5<\/strong>:\u00a0 7:00 pm PAC Meeting (Library)<\/p>\n Tues., Feb. 6<\/strong>:\u00a0 Fruit and Vegetable Delivery \u2013 apples<\/p>\n Wed., Feb. 7<\/strong>:\u00a0 Global School Play Day<\/p>\n Fri., Feb. 9<\/strong>:\u00a0 9:00 am East African Music and Dance Performance \u2013 whole school event<\/p>\n 12:25 PAC Hot Lunch \u2013 Pizza (rescheduled from Jan. 19th<\/sup>)<\/p>\n February 13 \u2013 27<\/strong>:\u00a0 Grade 8 Transfer Period\/Registration<\/p>\n Grade 8 Registration<\/strong> \u2013 All Grade 8 registration for the 2024-25 school year will be done online through the Parent Portal<\/u>.\u00a0 The Grade 8 Transfer Period will open at 12:00 noon February 13th<\/sup><\/strong>.\u00a0 Deadline for completing a request for the Grade 8 Transfer Period is February 24th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Families with children currently enrolled in a Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows School District elementary school should submit an Existing Student Transfer Request<\/em><\/strong> in the Grade 8 Transfer Period.\u00a0 Read the Grade 8 Transfer Period Information 2024\/25<\/strong><\/a> tab on the school district website for more details.<\/p>\n Middle Year Development Instrument, Grade 5<\/strong> \u2013 The district has partnered with the Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP) at UBC to measure and promote children\u2019s social and emotional development, health, well-being, and assets through the Middle Year Development Instrument (MDI). The MDI is a self-report questionnaire that asks children in middle childhood about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in school, at home, and in the community.
