{"id":55,"date":"2017-07-27T17:35:43","date_gmt":"2017-07-27T21:35:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/elementary.sd42.ca\/hammond\/?page_id=55"},"modified":"2021-01-18T14:19:04","modified_gmt":"2021-01-18T22:19:04","slug":"montessori","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/elementary.sd42.ca\/hammond\/montessori\/","title":{"rendered":"Montessori"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-109\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress1.blob.core.windows.net\/hammond\/2017\/07\/Hammond3-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"531\" height=\"354\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress1.blob.core.windows.net\/hammond\/2017\/07\/Hammond3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wordpress1.blob.core.windows.net\/hammond\/2017\/07\/Hammond3-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wordpress1.blob.core.windows.net\/hammond\/2017\/07\/Hammond3.jpg 840w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 531px) 100vw, 531px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"entry-title\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Hammond Elementary offers a publicly-funded Montessori program through School District 42.\u00a0 We currently offer kindergarten to Grade 6.\u00a0 When the Montessori students reach Grade 7 they are combined into classrooms with the students in our traditional education program.\u00a0 This transition is quite smooth for most students.\u00a0 Students in a Montessori environment have become self-motivated learners, adaptable and responsible for their own education, and this serves them well when faced with new challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What is Montessori?<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>Montessori is a method of education centers around Practical Life, Language, Math, Geography, Science, Art and Music, as well as focusing on virtues, the child\u2019s sense of self and their role within the community on a local and global scale.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the difference between a Montessori and traditional education?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Montessori emphasizes learning through all five senses, not just through listening, watching or reading.\u00a0 It is a self-motivated, self-paced approach to learning, in which children learn at their own, individual pace and according to their own choice of activities.\u00a0 The classroom is a \u201cprepared environment\u201d, designed to mimic the greater world in which the child has the freedom to explore, discover and learn to make responsible choices.\u00a0 Let children learn through the use of materials, specifically designed to be self-correcting, as well as multi-level, so students have the ability to teach themselves.\u00a0 There is opportunity to forge ahead in an area of strength, or spend extra time on concepts that are more challenging.\u00a0 This instills a strong sense of responsibility and joy in their own discoveries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><strong>What is the Maple Ridge Montessori Society?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The MRMS is much like the PAC of the Montessori program.\u00a0 We are a group of parents committed to having a role in what our child\u2019s education looks like.
