{"id":362,"date":"2017-10-04T11:45:43","date_gmt":"2017-10-04T18:45:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/elementary.sd42.ca\/glenwood\/?p=362"},"modified":"2024-06-27T15:45:34","modified_gmt":"2024-06-27T22:45:34","slug":"octobers-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elementary.sd42.ca\/glenwood\/octobers-news\/","title":{"rendered":"October&#8217;s news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Good October morning\/afternoon\/evening!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I can\u2019t believe it is October already!\u00a0 September flew by\u2026!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>October is bringing its own set of excitements!\u00a0 FSA\u2019s and MDI processes are on the table for this month and November &#8211; information and letters went out in this regard, the literacy assessments are running, our Orange Shirt Day date will be determined as soon as we get our staff order ( \u00a0<strong>8-(<\/strong>\u00a0 ), we have our breakfast and lunch programs running, our multipurpose room is fully utilized with food programs, groups and will eventually be set up with stations for sensory stimulation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Additional news items:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Our Cottage is looking good \u2013 the new floor installation date may be sooner than December!<\/li>\n<li>PAC is selling freezies and our kids love it \u2013 rain or shine!<\/li>\n<li>Our GW community members are getting more and more aware that we have potentially 5 platforms of communication, and parents\/guardians I have spoken to, appreciate the \u201creal time\u201d updates that are published on:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Twitter<\/li>\n<li>Facebook and our<\/li>\n<li>Glenwood Website<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>As far as\u00a0Health and safety is concerned: we have addressed \u2013 and will keep addressing &#8211; the following concerns via District 42\u2019s maintenance, Maple Ridge\u2019s Parks and Recreation, the SCPA and Bylaws:<\/li>\n<li>The issue of dog poo on our fields \u2013 our community members and dog owners are implored to pick up after their dogs. Our field is consistently being used by our community, but we all need to take responsibility to keep this safe (!) for our students\u2019 use. Your\/any help in this regard will be appreciated.<\/li>\n<li>In an attempt to eliminate parking lot congestion, we have issued\u00a0parking passes to staff. We need the parking lot open for staff, itinerant staff, visitors to the school and parents ONLY, between 8 am to 3 pm.\u00a0 Additional staff parking has been allocated \u201cofficially\u201d too.<\/li>\n<li>I have asked the RCMP to be visible and assist on occasion during our peak times to help drivers make safer choices for all of us.<\/li>\n<li>Keeping traffic flowing is appreciated.<\/li>\n<li>Additionally, parking \u2013 i.e. switching off the engine and leaving your car \u2013 in the fire lanes \/ in the middle of the parking lot &#8211; is illegal. A quick drop off won\u2019t hinder traffic flow.<\/li>\n<li>Our Health Nurse is here on October 11 to talk to Gr 6 students about the immunizations of \u00e0 November 8<\/li>\n<li>Grade 3\u2019s will be participating in Active Kids Noon Hour \u2013 it looks like a fun program! Ask your Grade 3 teacher about this!<\/li>\n<li>HUB was a fun program too. Our kids bicycled all over and the weather was amazing for this activity.<\/li>\n<li>Athletics:\n<ul>\n<li>Our <strong>Terry Fox Run<\/strong> was a success. All the students participated, ran, and had a great time.\u00a0\u00a0 The music definitely helped.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Volleyball <\/strong>is starting up. Ms. Wadge is our coach! Practices Wednesdays &#8211; after school.
