This process of students sharing their learning, celebrating successes, and discussing future goals is a very powerful way to teach students how to have a growth mindset.<\/p>\n<p>Also, thank you to all families who came out to support the PAC\u2019s first Winter Market on Thursday night. A very successful first community event for our school!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Additional Important Items:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Our \u201cCoins for Kids\u201d coin drive to support of the Maple Ridge Christmas Hamper is gaining momentum. Thank you to the many families who sent in quarters today. <strong><em>We are asking students to bring <u>loonies on Monday<\/u>. <\/em><\/strong>We have collectively raised well over $200 already to help support this important local charity. Thank you so much!!!!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Purdy\u2019s Chocolate Orders this Tuesday <\/strong>December 10th from 1:30 to 2:45pm in the conference room next to the school\u2019s main lobby entrance.<\/li>\n<li>Our school\u2019s<strong> Kindness Challenge <\/strong>will soon be featured on the District website. They wrote a nice article to summarize the challenge which I\u2019ve pasted below. <strong><em>Monday\u2019s challenge is to create a card for somebody as a random act of kindness!<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>c\u0313\u0259sq\u0259nel\u0259 elementary students embrace 14 Days of Kindness Challenge<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students at\u00a0c\u0313\u0259sq\u0259nel\u0259 elementary are spreading extra kindness during the holidays.<\/p>\n<p>During December, the new Albion-area school has invited students to participate in its inaugural 14 Days of Kindness Challenge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe purpose of the challenge is\u00a0to encourage our students to become kind and thoughtful community members,\u201d explained principal Jon Wheatley.<\/p>\n<p>The daily kindness challenges began on December 2 with a small act of kindness: \u201cHolding the door open for someone.\u201d Then, for each weekday until December 20, there will be new challenges, like \u201cGive an unexpected gift\u201d or \u201cMake a point to do random acts of kindness today!\u201d that can be done at school or home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a great opportunity to highlight how small and or bigger actions can truly make a difference for others in their family and community,\u201d added Wheatley.<\/p>\n<p>The idea for the kindness campaign started with Grade 1 teacher Melissa Affleck, who had been doing similar challenges in her classroom at Glenwood Elementary for the past few Decembers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wanted to focus on ways we can give back to the community,\u201d she said. \u201cThe kids are really excited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Each student also received a copy of the calendar of kindness challenges so parents\/guardians can help to support and participate in the kindness campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to get the family involved too,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Since the start of the14 Days of Kindness Challenge, Affleck says students have enthusiastically embraced an intention of kindness. \u201cThey are going out of their way to be\u00a0kind in other ways too.
