{"id":3187,"date":"2023-11-02T14:47:18","date_gmt":"2023-11-02T21:47:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/elementary.sd42.ca\/cusqunela\/?p=3187"},"modified":"2023-11-02T14:47:18","modified_gmt":"2023-11-02T21:47:18","slug":"new-playground-unveiled-at-c%cc%93%c9%99sq%c9%99nel%c9%99-elementary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elementary.sd42.ca\/cusqunela\/new-playground-unveiled-at-c%cc%93%c9%99sq%c9%99nel%c9%99-elementary\/","title":{"rendered":"New playground unveiled at c\u0313\u0259sq\u0259nel\u0259 Elementary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>c\u0313\u0259sq\u0259nel\u0259 Elementary has a new playground for students to enjoy, made possible because of a large community effort.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a lot of great kids that are super happy to have the playground finally, to be able to play on,\u201d said Chrystal Akiyama, a member of c\u0313\u0259sq\u0259nel\u0259\u2019s parent advisory council (PAC). \u201cWe have worked very hard over the past few years together as a PAC and a community with our parents and our team supporters throughout the school district.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZZrCJfVWPnA?si=mPUHsGKReV6B3pAj\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The playground took two years of effort, including fundraising, finding a supplier, and building the structure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a long process, and all of our hearts went into it 150 per cent,\u201d Akiyama said. \u201cHonestly, we couldn\u2019t ask for anything better. We got exactly what we set out to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The PAC fundraised $97,000 for the playground while the school district contributed $61,000 in capital funds, and $6,500 was raised in donations.<\/p>\n<p>The school community wanted a playground that was going to blend in with the surroundings but still offer a creative, challenging way to play, and that\u2019s where Habitat Systems, the playground equipment supplier, came in.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-15641 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sd42.ca\/assets\/media\/cusqunela-new-playground-4-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Students play on the new playground at c\u0313\u0259sq\u0259nel\u0259 Elementary.\" width=\"365\" height=\"547\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The new playground features multiple slides, monkey bars, spinners, nets, climbers and built-in shade, all tied together with the nature-inspired theme of \u201ctreetops.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe concept behind the structure is as if you\u2019re hanging in the trees, swinging from branches, and at an elevation that\u2019s going to make you feel that you\u2019re up in the trees,\u201d explained Brad Neufeld, business development manager with Habitat Systems.<\/p>\n<p>The idea, he added, is that there\u2019s something for everyone.
