width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The trail behind c\u0313\u0259sq\u0259nel\u0259 Elementary is lined with painted rocks that form a lengthy snake.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt looks like a real snake&#8230; that\u2019s made out of rocks,\u201d explained Abigail, a Grade 3 student.<\/p>\n<p>The 157-metre path the snake is being built on connects the school and the neighbouring Albion Community Centre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal was to activate the trail and we wanted to do it with the students and introduce it through a kindness project,\u201d said Jen Baillie, the recreation coordinator at Albion Community Centre. \u201cWith the community centre and the school being on the same site, it\u2019s important for this to be one larger community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-15521 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sd42.ca\/assets\/media\/cusqunela-Rock-Snake-2-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"A rock painted as a ladybug. \" width=\"337\" height=\"214\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With the addition of the rock snake, that community connection is even clearer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was like you were putting like a rock collection down,\u201d said Julia, who is in Grade 2. \u201cIt was really pretty, I really like what everybody else did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The students were able to paint their own rocks, with the theme of \u2018kindness\u2019 in mind, and place them on the trail to be part of the snake.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-15520\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sd42.ca\/assets\/media\/cusqunela-Rock-Snake-3-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Painted rocks form a kindness snake in the trail behind c\u0313\u0259sq\u0259nel\u0259 Elementary.\" width=\"337\" height=\"506\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe thought it would be a great way of bringing the kids together and encouraging them to access all of the great programs that are at the Albion Community Centre,\u201d said Janet Smith, c\u0313\u0259sq\u0259nel\u0259\u2019s teacher-librarian.<\/p>\n<p>The community centre offers after-school programming, child care, and sport and fitness programs.<\/p>\n<p>Some of these programs, Smith added, are even hosted at the school, including pickleball and basketball.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018kindness\u2019 theme points to the growing relationship and collaboration between the two facilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe feel kindness is at the heart of our community,\u201d Smith said. \u201cDefinitely the heart of our school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grade 2 student Oliver says kindness is important.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo you don\u2019t hurt other people\u2019s feelings,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>Preston, who is also in Grade 2, agreed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it was a good idea because if you\u2019re kind and you ask people, \u2018do you want to be [my] friend?\u2019 they might say yes,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-15522 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sd42.ca\/assets\/media\/cusqunela-Rock-Snake-5-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Students at c\u0313\u0259sq\u0259nel\u0259 Elementary pose for a group shot in front of the kindness snake. \" width=\"850\" height=\"566\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\ufeff The trail behind c\u0313\u0259sq\u0259nel\u0259 Elementary is lined with painted rocks that form a lengthy snake. \u201cIt looks like a real snake&#8230;
