Jan. 11, 2022: Changes to contact tracing for COVID-19 in schools

Dear parent/guardian,

Last week, we provided you with an update from Fraser Health, which included information about changes to contact tracing for COVID-19 in K-12 settings. We are writing to answer some of the common questions we have received and to provide further clarification about this shift to a self-management system.

*** As a reminder, your child should always stay home if they feel unwell, even if they do not have COVID-19. This will help prevent the spread of other illnesses, especially during cold and flu season. ***

Will schools (including staff and students) be notified if there is an exposure at school?
As public health is not contacting every person who tests positive, school exposures will not be issued by public health for individual cases. In the event of a declared outbreak, public health will issue a notification.

Whom should I notify if my child tests positive?
Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 must self-report and notify their close contacts. They do not need to notify the school or others at school.

• Additional guidance is available here: I Tested Positive for COVID-19.

• Additional guidance is available here: Instructions for close contacts.
