School Responsibilities
- For the primary race days, only SD42 employees will be permitted in the finish line area and they MUST be wearing a high visibility vest. Race officials cannot provide vests so please make sure to bring extras from your school.
- Extra-large and large schools must provide a minimum of 2 spotters each day.
- Medium and small schools must provide a minimum of 1 spotter each day.
- All spotters must be an adult or mature grade 11 or 12 student.
- Spotter’s need to report to the announcer’s tent 25 minutes before the first race. If you have two spotters who will be trading off please make sure to send both volunteers to the announcers tent.
Each spotter must remain in their designated location for all races, so it is recommended that they bring a chair, knee high gumboots (to cross a creek on the intermediate day) and an umbrella (on the rainy days). Please make sure you have your designated volunteer prior to race day so they can come prepared.
This event cannot happen without volunteers, so it is imperative that every school contributes to help make this event safe and successful.

There is a LOT of traffic after school on 232nd near Maple Ridge Park due to after school pick up from Yennadon Elementary. An alternate route that may be less busy could be 132nd but it does still get quite congested at the roundabout by Maple Ridge Park. Please let parents know that if they have a child in grade seven, they will need to leave as soon as possible after school to ensure they are on time for the first race.
Cost
There is a $100 fee for all independent schools who wish to participate. This fee is applied to the costs involved in organizing this event. Please make all cheques payable to SD42
Rabbits and Turtles
We are always looking for Rabbits and Turtles to help us on race day! It is especially difficult to get volunteers for our intermediate races. If you, or someone else on your staff, love to run (or bike) and would like to help us, please contact carmela_bassetto@sd42.ca
