Each day is a fresh start!&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Class Placements<\/strong><\/span>&#8211; The following information regarding class placements was sent out via the Parent Portal<\/p>\n<p>Thank families for your patience as you waited for your child to be placed into his\/her 2025\/2026 class. All students will transition to their new classes on Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>As you can imagine the process of organizing classrooms to meet the needs of our students is a very complex process and can be challenging. In June, and again over this past week our staff has spent many hours designing effective, positive learning environments for your children.<\/p>\n<p>Through the process of designing these environments teachers have had to consider many critical factors such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>individual academic needs<\/li>\n<li>student learning styles along with their strengths and needs<\/li>\n<li>each child\u2019s social needs and peer relationships<\/li>\n<li>emotional characteristics for each child,<\/li>\n<li>balance of gender in each class<\/li>\n<li>number of students per class<\/li>\n<li>entire class composition<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Families can find the division that your child has been assigned to when parents complete the \u201cConsent Forms\u201d that are on the Parent Portal.\u00a0 Please ensure these forms are completed.<\/p>\n<p>We are confident in the decisions made this year and are excited to move forward with our new learning communities. While social groupings are considered, new groupings allow children to have a wider circle of friends.<\/p>\n<p>Resiliency is a skill built by experiences, and we understand that some children may feel disappointment. We ask that you discuss with your child the careful process that teachers and staff go through in placing them into classes. Instead, there is an increased emphasis on the development of skills and understanding concepts and processes, in addition to developing the attitudes and mindset of a lifelong learner. With rapid changes in science and technology, it is essential students learn how to access information, evaluate ideas, make judgments, collaborate with others, and transfer knowledge in novel ways.<\/p>\n<p>Teachers of combined classes create learning engagements that meet the needs of all learners, often incorporating learning outcomes from both grades into holistic, theme-based units of study. The Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework helps teachers design curriculum to meet individual student needs while recognizing student strengths. Using this framework helps all teachers, whether straight grade or combined, succeed in creating an inclusive and equitable learning environment.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>How can families support their children?<\/strong><\/em><strong><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>Regardless of their child\u2019s class placement, families are encouraged to stay positive and interested in their child\u2019s learning. Families can demonstrate support by encouraging open-mindedness, risk-taking, and principled learning. Families are also encouraged to monitor schoolwork and to communicate openly with the teacher around their child\u2019s strengths, stretches, and learning goals.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Why do we use the term \u2018combined\u2019?<\/strong><\/em><strong><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>Combined grade classrooms have many names including split grades, multi-age, family grouping, etc. The term\u00a0split grade\u00a0sometimes becomes negatively associated with teachers splitting their time and attention between two distinct groups. The term\u00a0combined class\u00a0reflects a more holistic approach to learning that emphasizes whole group instruction, as well as opportunities for flexible groupings to meet students\u2019 learning styles and needs.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>How will being in a combined class impact my child?<\/strong><\/em><strong><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>Studies have shown that academic achievement\u00a0is not impacted\u00a0by being in a combined class versus a straight-grade class. In other words, there is no academic detriment to combined grade groupings. In fact, many studies have concluded there are social emotional benefits for students in combined classes, including greater leadership skills, increased self-esteem, increased social responsibility, and more positive peer interactions.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>How will combined classes benefit my child?<\/strong><\/em><strong><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>Just like in life, there are often combined classes in high school, especially for electives. Giving children the opportunity to have different experiences in elementary school does what school is designed to do \u2014 prepare students for real life.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Food Programs at Albion\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>We are again proud to be able to offer a number of food programs to students and families in need here at Albion this school year.Our Breakfast Club is open everyday from 8-8:25am every morning for all students who need breakfast, forgot or didn\u2019t have time for breakfast or just need a quick snack before school starts.<\/p>\n<p>Our school Snack Program also has fresh fruit, veggies and some healthy snacks available to students that may need a little something extra than they were able to bring from home during the day.<\/p>\n<p>Our Lunch Programs include:<\/p>\n<p>Purchased Lunches: $6 lunches from Simply Foods on Tuesdays and Thursdays which can be ordered via this link: <a href=\"https:\/\/simplyfoods.ahotlunch.ca\/login\">https:\/\/simplyfoods.ahotlunch.ca\/login<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The school code is Albion.<\/p>\n<p>All parents can follow this link to complete a form for a partial subsidy reducing the price of each meal to $3: <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/Pages\/ResponsePage.aspx?id=ijhG3NN9F06xHzvCZ79XWr3sklBeXf1MgVxq0gZP3NxUNUJFVEk5UlVaWDVXNllDNkVYMzNTUFM5VC4u\">https:\/\/forms.office.com\/Pages\/ResponsePage.aspx?id=ijhG3NN9F06xHzvCZ79XWr3sklBeXf1MgVxq0gZP3NxUNUJFVEk5UlVaWDVXNllDNkVYMzNTUFM5VC4u<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Subsidized Lunches: Fully subsidized lunches for families in need everyday of the week which you can register for by emailing <a href=\"mailto:kellie_mcnutt@sd42.ca\">kellie_mcnutt@sd42.ca<\/a> with your child\u2019s full name and any food allergies and dietary restrictions (ex. requiring Halal or vegetarian meals). We strongly discourage students from bringing any \u201cvaluables\u201d unrelated to their educational program needs.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Student\/Parent Handbook\/Technology Policy<\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nEnsure that you spend time reading the 2025\/2026 Student\/Parent Handbook and Technology Policy.\u00a0 A copy of these important items can be found on this website and also in the front of your child&#8217;s planner.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Student Medication<\/u><\/strong><strong><u><br \/>\n<\/u><\/strong>From time-to-time students require medication at school. To facilitate this, parents are required to complete a Medical Intervention form and provide a supply of the medication, in its original container, to the office.\u00a0 Please note that students may not be in possession of any medication at school unless specifically authorized by the principal, and staff may not administer medication to students unless the required form is completed and signed by a parent.<\/p>\n<p>If your child has an existing medical condition such as, but not limited to, diabetes, allergies, etc., that we should be aware of, parents must complete a Medical Intervention form.\u00a0 These forms can be obtained at the office or under the Parent Tab under Medical and Driving Forms on this website.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Parking Lot Reminders<\/u><\/strong><strong><u><br \/>\n<\/u><\/strong>Parents will quickly become aware that our parking lot is extremely busy before and after school.\u00a0 We encourage children to walk to school or ask that parents park away from the school and walk to pick up their child.
