Memo January 13-17, 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What a great 1st week back we had.\u00a0 On Wednesday our students attended assemblies where discussions occured around belonging and feeling safe at school.\u00a0 The followign video was show to the students <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-dP9hxxP288\">Diversity and Inclusion<\/a>.\u00a0 Here are some of the notes that were taken during our discussion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What does it mean to belong?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>People not being mean and are being kind and thoughtful<\/li>\n<li>Saying hello and being polite to others<\/li>\n<li>Giving people a hug when they need it (ensuing that we ask permission to do so)<\/li>\n<li>Feeling accepted and not excluded<\/li>\n<li>Feeling equal to others<\/li>\n<li>Not beign ashamed but proud of your background<\/li>\n<li>Feeling part of the community<\/li>\n<li>Feeling loved and cared for<\/li>\n<li>Feeling safe<\/li>\n<li>Feeling like you are a part of the whole<\/li>\n<li>Not feeling judged, but accepting who you are<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What makes you feel safe and included?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When you are with people who care about you<\/li>\n<li>When you have friends to paly with<\/li>\n<li>Being cared for<\/li>\n<li>Not feeling alone<\/li>\n<li>Having friends and others around who care and are like family<\/li>\n<li>Remebering that your differences do not decide your worth<\/li>\n<li>Making good choices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What do you think helps people feel welcome and cared for?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have people around who are warm and welcoming<\/li>\n<li>When there is always someone there for you<\/li>\n<li>Connecting with others who believe in you<\/li>\n<li>Sharing things with others who care<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What are some things that our school does to make everyone feel welcome?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We are nice to others and help them<\/li>\n<li>We show new people around<\/li>\n<li>We help people when they get hurt<\/li>\n<li>We include and play with others<\/li>\n<li>We learn about many cultures<\/li>\n<li>We have Flags at the front<\/li>\n<li>Staff are there for all students<\/li>\n<li>We celebrate many different cultural events<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What are some ideas to make our school more inclusive?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We could have more helpers, even parents<\/li>\n<li>We could play with people we don\u2019t know<\/li>\n<li>We could help keep our school clean<\/li>\n<li>We could stand up for others<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t laugh at others if they do something embarrassing<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t tolerate people making fun of others for their differences<\/li>\n<li>Advertise our buddy bench<\/li>\n<li>Have an inclusivity\/diversity club<\/li>\n<li>Display art from different countries and cultures<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that we have a place for people to go who are not feeling good<\/li>\n<li>Have an Identity Day, Cultural Day<\/li>\n<li>Do secret acts of kindness<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We will now take these ideas and further discuss them at upcoming staff meetings and studnet leadership meetings.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday not only did several students and staff dress the same as one another but we had an amazing pancake breakfast that was prepared and served by our PAC.\u00a0 A huge thank you to all the wonderful parents who volunteered for the event was enjoyed by all!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3411 alignleft\" underline;\"><strong>Black Excellence Day- Wednedsay, January 15<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nAs a lead up to Black History Month, Black Excellence Day is a day to rejoice Black history and learn about Black stories, Black art and Black people, and a day to stand in solidarity with Black Canadians.\u00a0 All students are encouraged to show their support in this day by wearing black.\u00a0 For more information on Black Excellence Day visit this <a href=\"https:\/\/blackexcellenceday.ca\/\">link<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Passion Club<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Meet\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Wednesdays 12:00-12:40<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in the\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Multi-Purpose<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> room\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Students\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Grades 2 to 7<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0are invited to join this club<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The intention is to allow\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">time for children to come together with other and learn hobbies or skills<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0while spending time with others from the school community.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Some ideas of things to learn or create include Knitting, making bracelets, drawing, reading, writing, making a game, origami, weaving, crocheting, etc.\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Choices need to be safe, able to be done and cleaned up within the lunch hour.<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0There is no space for things to be saved or to dry over the week. This is NOT a club for sports activities, games, hanging out chatting, etc. if in doubt they can check with the supervising teachers (Mrs. Weger, Ms. Stevens, Ms. Golnick, Ms. Lindert, Mrs. Dailey) Students must be doing something related to their passion or skill they want to learn or learning from another student.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Children need to\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">plan ahead<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and make sure\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">they bring all supplies<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0they will need. They might need to have their families help them gather or buy their supplies.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">No supplies will be provided at the school.<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Children will be responsible for\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">eating their lunches during this time without making a mess<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0or spilling on other\u2019s materials.\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It is not ok for a child to return to class and ask to eat at 12:40<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Children are\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">responsible for cleaning up<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">all their supplies and any mess they create before 12:40 pm<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">If there are too many children for the day the supervising teacher may need to limit participation to manageable numbers.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">PAC News<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong>The next PAC Hot lunch is schedules for Friday, Janaury 24.\u00a0
